About the role
Applications are invited from teachers with
**BC Certification ** for the following teaching position:
Port Hardy Secondary School, Port Hardy, BC
1.0 FTE Continuing – Counselling, Social Studies 10, and Careers 9
Commencing: September 1, 2026
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
- Master's degree in Counselling;
- completion of a Bachelor of Education;
- certification by or eligible to become BC certified by the BC Teacher Certification Branch;
- recent successful experience as a school counsellor at the secondary level;
- academic training, qualifications and recent successful experience teaching secondary level Social Studies and Careers;
- strong classroom management skills;
- the ability and energy to work with multi-age groups and meet the needs of students with a range of learning styles and abilities using a variety of teaching strategies;
- the ability and desire to work closely with staff in a team-oriented approach to teaching and learning;
- knowledge and experience working with students with exceptionalities;
- training and experience in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Threat Assessment, Crisis Response and Suicide Risk Assessment;
- successful experience liaising with parents, school-based teams, external agencies, and community-based professionals and coordinating SEL interventions using a multi-agency approach;
- strong organizational, interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills;
- strong interest in innovation and inquiry; and
- ability to embed local Indigenous culture and ways of knowing into teaching practices.
The starting annual salary for a full-time School Teacher position ranges from $66,299 to $116,016, with placement in the range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement. The Remote Recruitment and Retention allowance is available for SD85 teachers payable at $3,126 over ten months.
