Contract Type: Special Project Assignment – Summer Learning Teacher
Assignment Area(s): Grade 6-9 – Middle Years Visual Arts (2 Positions)
Effective Date: July 6, 2026, to July 17, 2026 (8:15 am – 12:45 pm) (Instructional time is 8:30 – 12:30)
Please Note: The assignment in July may not be identical to the assignment in this posted position. Summer school programs are contingent upon student enrolment. If, on or around June 26, 2026, there are insufficient class numbers for this assignment the course will be cancelled, and the teaching contract will be rescinded. Teachers will be paid in accordance with the Collective Agreement (Article B.29). By accepting this assignment, teachers do not receive experience or earn seniority or aggregate months of service towards conversions to a continuing contract (B status).
Deadline for Applications: April 27, 2026 - 12:00 p.m.

**Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience: **

extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching all areas of this assignment

knowledge of, and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment
-
successful experience in teaching prior Summer Learning courses
Extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching Visual Arts at the Middle School level. -
Knowledge of, and demonstrated application of, the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to Visual Arts in a summer learning environment.

Formal undergraduate or post-graduate studies in Visual Arts, Fine Arts, or a related field.
-
Demonstrated competence in teaching Visual Arts at the Middle School level.
-
Demonstrated ability to teach a variety of visual art techniques and mediums, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and digital arts.
-
Ability to integrate cross-curricular elements such as literacy, cultural studies, and history into art lessons.
-
Currently providing direct instruction and support to Middle School students in Visual Arts or related fields.
-
Understanding of and ability to implement learning outcomes based on the Integrated Resource Packages (IRPs) for Visual Arts.
-
Demonstrated understanding of Middle School Philosophy.
-
Proven ability to develop a well-rounded Visual Arts program that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and artistic expression.
-
Demonstrated ability to use diverse teaching strategies to engage all students.
-
Ability to integrate technology within the classroom to enhance visual art learning experiences.
-
Proven experience in embedding the First Peoples Principles of Learning into Visual Arts curriculum.

Demonstrated ability to assess student progress and involve parents as educational partners.

Strong classroom management skills and the ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Willingness to collaborate with district/school curriculum leaders and participate in professional learning communities.

Commitment to fostering student creativity and artistic growth through project-based learning and hands-on activities.

Excellent communication skills with parents, students, and staff members.

Demonstrated ability to work as a strong, collaborative team member.
