Qualifications
MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING:
- An Undergraduate (Bachelor’s) degree in a related discipline is required.
EXPERIENCE:
- One year of directly related communications experience is required.
- Experience creating and managing communication plans is required.
- Experience coordinating concurrent projects and juggling multiple priorities is required.
- Knowledge of communication strategies is required.
- Knowledge of library processes and procedures is preferred.
- Directly related communications experience, preferably in an academic setting is an asset.
- Previous experience working in libraries is an asset.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Proficiency with computers, spreadsheets, databases, and word processing is required.
- Excellent organizational skills, maintaining files, and seeking ways to better streamline systems is required.
- Demonstrated ability to act positively and efficiently under pressure is required.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders is required.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and establish work priorities and deadlines is required.

Key responsibilities
- Responsible for all public relations materials for the UML, including communication and liaison with outside agencies, students, staff and the public, using a variety of channels including UML’s UMToday network and social media.
- Responsible for developing and maintaining a communications calendar, highlighting activities of interest to external stakeholders, and ensuring timely execution of the communications program.
- Identifies opportunities and recommends efficient and effective communication solutions.
- Organizes communications for special events, including presentation materials, etc.
- Provides advice and expertise on look and feel of UML products, including online resources such as UM Digital Collections.
- Works with UML units and staff to create communication plans for projects within the UML - including developing timelines and workback schedules.
- Works with UML website development team to create and update content.
- Assigns work to staff responsible for graphic design to produce products identified in communications plans.
- Undertakes a program of post-project evaluation to determine efficacy/success of the communication plans and identifies areas for future improvement.
- Develops and maintains effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including University of Manitoba Marketing and Communications staff.
- Consults on communication budgets with the Libraries’ Financial Officer.
- Provides expertise to Libraries’ staff on communications as necessary.
- Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
