Qualifications
LEVEL OF FORMAL EDUCATION:
- Valid Manitoba 2nd Class Power Engineer's Certificate.
- Must hold a valid Manitoba Driver's License - Class 5.
EXPERIENCE:
- Significant related experience in plant of comparable capacity.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Alertness and the ability to react quickly to all situations.
- Good communication skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Capable of performing the duties as assigned.
OTHER:
- Hours of work are 24/7 and 8 and 12 hours shifts required.
- Regular attendance and punctuality are required.
- Will be required to provide acceptable Criminal Record and Vulnerable Persons Registry checks.
Key responsibilities
- Maintains the operation and surveillance of: all boilers, chilled water and ancillary equipment, related control panels, utility services and building control systems.
- Carries out all required operational changes, safety inspections and procedures, boiler blow down, fuel transfers, chemical tests, feedwater analysis, building systems control etc.
- Maintains an operating log and provides operating data, graphs, etc. pertinent to the efficient operation of the plant.
- Overhauls and repairs steam, chilled water, oil and water treatment equipment, and ancillary equipment.
- Cleans the plant and equipment including the inside and outside of boilers.
- Acts as a liaison and directs the Assistant Engineers.
- Provides training to other Engineers as required.
- Acts as a communication centre: relays messages, transmits and receives information and initiates the appropriate actions.
- Performs maintenance and repair work on all plant equipment.
- Upgrades and improves existing equipment.
- Assist in the installation and setup of new and existing equipment.
- Responsible for monitoring an inventory of required parts and material.
- Sets up and maintains a preventive maintenance system for all related equipment.
- Develops new and improved operating and reporting systems and procedures.
- Maintains time and material records on individual plant equipment.
- Establish a good line of communication with all Powerhouse personnel.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
