About the role
Under general supervision of the Supervisor of IT Infrastructure (Systems), and other senior team members, the Systems Technician is responsible for the effective day-to-day functioning of the City's information technology infrastructure (including the areas of Operating Systems, Server and Storage Hardware, Virtualization, Backups, and Cloud Infrastructure). These services are essential to enable city staff to provide city services to its citizens.
As the Systems Technician, your duties will include:
- Under guidance and supervision, ensure the effective operation of the City’s information infrastructure environments with routine tasks.
- Under guidance, support technical and problem-solving skills to contribute towards the acquisition, development, and support routine functions of complex large-scale information systems
- Continuously improve technical skills, organizational knowledge, and awareness of emerging technologies to adapt to change and help improve service delivery
- Route cables, label and track changes to Data Centre infrastructure.
- Support Networking, Systems and Cybersecurity departmental change requests to the Data Centre.
Your education and qualifications include:

A Diploma in Information Technology or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Certification in IT Service Management is an asset.

Other certifications such as CCNA are an asset.

Two years' experience with deploying, maintaining and administering IT infrastructure, specifically within areas of Network, Security, Operating Systems, Server and Storage Hardware, email, collaboration services, Telephony, Database Management Systems or Identity Management, leveraging at least one of the major infrastructure technologies utilized by the city in large scale business systems.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain effective and positive working relationships with teams, partnerships and alliances.

Excellent organizational skills with the ability to be flexible and responsive to changing priorities and circumstances as well as the ability to work on diverse projects simultaneously.

Knowledge of IT Service Management frameworks and ability to implement service management processes

- A Police Information Check satisfactory to the employer.
- Ability to work occasional off-hours.
- Ability to be on call 7x24 on a rotating basis.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
