THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting directly to the Operations Supervisor of Work Centers, the Machine Operator – Single Machine is primarily accountable for setting up and operating jobs to ensure they are running efficiently, lead times are being adhered to and quality is maintained. Additionally, in collaboration with the Manager of Scheduling and Planning and the Operations Supervisor of Work Centers, they are responsible for ensuring the day-to-day schedule is being followed.
HOW YOU’LL MAKE AN IMPACT
- Demonstrates behaviors aligned with the organization’s values and growth plans.
- Responsible for the oversight of their machine and their day-to-day responsibilities.
- Start, setup, run and shut down a minimum of one work center machine.
- Operates the machine without assistance, except when or being an operator assistant is required.
- Monitors machine production quality.
- Identify and report any machine repairs and/or maintenance requirement and can troubleshoot issues or errors with HDC’s Maintenance Technician.
- Oversee machine operator assistant if required.
- Able to train new entry level staff when required.
- Other duties from time to time when required and not limited to machines. (working in ASMB if scheduling permits)
- Responsible for effective job set up of each work center. Able to lead and direct assistant operators and general labours at times to work efficiently and limit down time.
- Responsible for each individual assigned project hourly rate submissions for each work center .
- Responsible for the work center quality assurance (QA) process which documents all checks during the project life cycle.
- Responsible for the overall processing and issuing of all materials onto work orders.
- Responsible for ensuring that all work center machines and tools are cared for and properly maintained by operators.
- Responsible for complying with standard operating procedures, health & safety policies and the overall safety and cleanliness of the workstation areas.
YOU’LL SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE IF YOU HAVE
- Experience operating die press machines (e.g., for corrugated/POP display production) preferred
- Strong mechanical aptitude: ability to operate and troubleshoot machinery
- Provide clear and detailed operating instructions to support efficient production.
- Accurately interpret and execute work orders, following project requirements and specifications.
- Communicate effectively and collaborate well with team members and supervisors.
- Apply strong organizational skills to manage tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Support onboarding and training of team members as needed.
- Identify and address quality issues by comparing output against samples and specifications.
- Utilize basic computer skills for production tracking and documentation.
- Operate and navigate Harding Display’s Enterprise Resource Planning system (Global Shop).
- Use Hub Planner for workforce and production scheduling.
- Valid First Aid certification is an asset.

Compensation
We strive to offer compensation that is fair, competitive, and reflective of each individual’s experience and contributions. Compensation will vary based on experience and skill level (Developing, Proficient, Highly Proficient, Expert, Management, Senior Leader). Candidates who are continuing to develop key skills may be considered below the range, while those who bring specialized expertise, exceptional impact, or deep industry knowledge may be considered above it.
The target compensation for this role is $18- $22 per hour and reflects a professional at a Proficient level. In addition to the hourly rate, this position may qualify for shift premiums and overtime pay where applicable.
