This includes the examination and review of claims, hiring of external lawyers to litigate claims and settlement of claims when appropriate. If you are an Alberta lawyer in private practice, you must purchase mandatory indemnity coverage through ALIA. Excess insurance coverage is voluntary and is available through commercial brokers and the Canadian Lawyers Insurance Association.
