We design, test, and manufacture optical devices for predominantly telecom and data center applications. The Ottawa site includes extremely capable teams including but not limited to: optical design, mechanical design, manufacturing process development, PLM, and manufacturing sustaining. We work closely with our Thai manufacturing team to scale optical component production. The Opportunity Lumentum is seeking an enthusiastic, innovative, organized Robotic Process Engineer (Co-op/Intern). The role start date is January 4th, 2027, on-site in Ottawa, Ontario. Co-op term length is flexible, from 4 months to 16 months. Pay Range: $24-35/hr Do you like autonomously solving thought-provoking problems with support from knowledgeable and supportive colleagues? What You’ll Be Doing Design, perform, and document experiments with 6-axis industrial robots Develop advanced routines for commissioning, calibration, and motion optimization Perform failure analysis, collect data, and perform SPC (Statistical Process Control) Develop and integrate machine vision solutions for part detection, measurement, and station setup Tune vision systems for high accuracy and repeatability in real-world conditions Design, prototype, and validate custom end-of-arm tooling and robot jigs Work with 3D printing, basic machining, and epoxy-based assembly Create and maintain clear documentation for robotic procedures, setups, and tool configurations Assist in training team members and transferring developed processes to manufacturing site in Thailand Operate within a cleanroom environment wearing appropriate PPE Work with microscopes, metrology tools (e.g. CMMs), and small-scale mechanical assemblies Investigate commercial solutions and automation strategies Report findings to the engineering team to guide development decisions What We’re Looking For Recommended Education: Currently studying pursuing B.Eng. in mechanical, electrical, mechatronic, or similar discipline. Candidates must be eligible to complete a background check as part of the hiring process Desired Skills: Hands on experience that includes mechanical assemblies, epoxy application, packaging process and equipment. Candidates should be currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or mechatronic engineering. Hands-on experience with mechanical assemblies, programming, and familiarity with CAD software and manufacturing tools is highly desired.
