Active Surveillance to Identify Potential Drug Safety Signals in Pregnancy: the first comprehensive analysis of medication use in pregnancy and postpartum in Nova Scotia

View the poster This project is a data-driven study assessing trends and outcomes associated with medication use in pregnancy in Nova Scotia. This study will use administrative data from the provincial organization Health Data Nova Scotia to help prioritize future drug safety studies for pregnant people. Filling this public health knowledge gap may help physicians and the public make informed decisions about the risks and benefits of using medications before and during pregnancy to help prevent adverse child health outcomes while optimizing maternal health. This study will benefit greatly from the perspectives of persons with lived / living experience (PWLLE) as consultants and advisors who can help guide research priorities and directions. The goal of working with PWLLE is to ensure that our research stays applicable and meaningful to women+. PWLLE may also have other responsibilities based on interest and fit. Eligibility We Would Love To Hear From You If You Live in Nova Scotia Took a prescription medication during or directly before pregnancy OR are planning a pregnancy and facing a decision regarding medication No background in research or prior knowledge required All gender identities welcome Time commitment One meeting where you will discuss research priorities and directions, as well as give feedback on the current plan. (~45 minutes) Possibility for further meetings based on your interest and fit Hybrid opportunity

Act as a consultant and advisor providing perspectives based on lived experience to guide research priorities. Participate in meetings to provide feedback on the current research plan regarding medication use during pregnancy.

Must reside in Nova Scotia and have experience taking prescription medication during or before pregnancy, or be planning a pregnancy. No prior research background or specialized knowledge is required.
