The pediatrician will diagnose diseases and physiological disorders, prescribe medication and treatment, and refer patients for surgery as needed. They will also act as consultants to other physicians and order necessary diagnostic procedures.

Candidates must have a degree in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, or optometry, along with 2 to less than 3 years of experience. Licensure by provincial or territorial authorities is also required.
