Legal Assistant - Family Law Ottawa, ON Reference # AC - 7275 Meridia Recruitment Solutions has collaborated with a prominent independent full-service law firm in Ottawa, Ontario to recruit a Legal Assistant to join their dynamic team. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced legal professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in delivering exceptional client service while supporting a busy family law team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting family law matters through the preparation of legal documents and court materials, coordination of client communications and scheduling, and the ongoing maintenance of files, dockets, and billings. This position requires a highly organized and detail-oriented professional with strong drafting skills, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to delivering high-quality client service. This is a one-year maternity leave contract. YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES: • Prepare correspondence, legal documentation, and court materials, including extensive editing and quality assurance. • Prepare family law forms, briefs, affidavits, and other documents for filing with the Court. • Schedule and coordinate client consultations, court appearances, and appointments. • Manage internal and external communications on behalf of the legal team. • Maintain client files and respond to client inquiries in a professional and timely manner. • Prepare daily dockets and client billings. • Maintain electronic and physical filing systems. • Assist with special projects and provide support to other departments as required. YOUR REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE • Office Administration – Legal diploma, Law Clerk diploma, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. • Minimum of 2 years of family law experience within a legal office environment. • In-depth knowledge of family law court forms and court filing systems. • Experience preparing and organizing client financial disclosures, preliminary legal documents, and affidavits. KEY SKILLS & CHARACTERISTICS • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and DivorceMate. • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. • Strong client service orientation and professional presentation. • Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines. • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated problem-solving abilities. • Ability to adapt effectively to changing schedules and priorities. • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive information. • Positive, professional, and team-oriented approach to work. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Work Environment: Collaborative and fast-paced family law practice committed to delivering high-quality legal services. Position Type: One-year maternity leave contract.
