Overview The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for using the nursing process to meet the needs of patients according to the professional standards of nursing care. The RN assures that the philosophy, mission, goals, objectives, policies and procedures of the Family Birthing Centre and of Michael Garron Hospital are followed. The position of the RN in the Family Birthing Center (FBC) is responsible for the assessment of all patients entering the Family Birthing Center. The RN consistently applies and utilizes the nursing process, critical thinking skills, scientific judgment, technical skills and leadership to deliver safe nursing care to patients. The RN collaborates with the patient care team to achieve quality patient care outcomes. Education Registered Nurse with current Certificate of Registration issued by the College of Nurses of Ontario required. Obstetrical/Maternity certificate or midwifery background an asset. Breastfeeding certificate course of 21 hours in length required. (If not completed prior to hire - must be completed within 6 months of start date). Current neonatal resuscitation (NRP) certification required. Completion of an obstetrical/maternity certificate program from an accredited college or university required (If not completed prior to hire, must be completed within 2 years of start date). Current BCLS required. Current certification in Fetal Monitoring from AWHONN and/or the Champlain Maternal Newborn Regional Program (CMNRP) required. Member of the MOREOB® Program an asset. Qualifications Minimum recent 1 year full-time experience in labour and birth (ante-partum/post-partum/intrapartum nursing which includes operative procedures, in particular scrubbing and circulating for caesarean sections) required. Demonstrated family centered care philosophy required. Demonstrated ability to welcome change and manage it innovatively. Demonstrated ability to provide ongoing education to clients and families to support informed choice required. Demonstrates excellence in written and verbal communication skills required. Demonstrated critical thinking and problem solving skills required. Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service skills required. Demonstrated computer proficiency required; demonstratedexperience with Cerner (Powerchart maternity and Fetal Link) is an asset. Must be willing to work in both labour and birth and postpartum required. Good work and attendance record required.
