Dispatcher Department: Operations Reports to: Dispatch Supervisor Location: 7 Tristan Court, Nepean Position Summary The Dispatcher plays a key role in ensuring the efficient, safe, and timely delivery of materials to our customers. Working closely with drivers, warehouse, sales, and customer service teams, the Dispatcher coordinates all deliveries, pickups, and yard activities while maintaining a high standard of communication and customer satisfaction. At Morin Supply, we aim to be the easiest building supply company to deal with, and the dispatch team is central to that mission. Key Responsibilities Delivery Planning & Coordination Schedule, organize, and prioritize deliveries based on order deadlines, truck availability, and customer requirements. Optimize truck routes for efficiency, fuel savings, and on-time performance. Assign deliveries to appropriate vehicles (boom trucks, flatbeds, Moffetts) based on order size, site access, and delivery conditions. Communicate with drivers throughout the day to manage changing priorities and ensure service standards Yard Coordination & Prioritization Coordinate closely with the yard team to ensure orders are picked, staged, and loaded according to the delivery schedule. Prioritize picking lists based on truck routes, customer urgency, and time-sensitive deliveries. Monitor yard workflow to avoid bottlenecks and ensure optimal use of manpower and equipment. Communicate proactively with the Yard Supervisor to resolve issues impacting delivery timelines. Communication & Customer Service Act as the main point of contact for delivery-related inquiries from customers, drivers, and internal teams. Provide proactive updates to sales or customers regarding delays, site restrictions, or safety issues. Maintain professionalism and calm under pressure in fast-paced environments Documentation & System Management Review and release delivery tickets through the ERP. Track delivery progress and record completion notes or exceptions. Ensure compliance with established cut-off times. Maintain accurate truck logs, delivery reports, and service records. Safety & Compliance Ensure drivers and yard personnel follow all DOT and company safety regulations. Support pre-trip and post-trip inspection compliance. Report safety concerns, site hazards, or equipment issues immediately Other Carries out other tasks and responsibilities as needed to support day-to-day operations, deliveries, and overall business needs. Must be available to work one mandatory Saturday in July, prior to the Civic Holiday weekend, to support annual inventory activities. Other duties as required to support the needs of the business Education High School diploma or general education degree (GED) Skills & Qualifications 2+ years of experience in dispatch, logistics, or transportation (construction supply experience preferred). Strong organizational and multitasking skills. Experience coordinating yard and delivery operations. Proficient with routing tools and ERP systems (Biztrack experience is an asset). Excellent communication skills in English (French is required for Gatineau operations). Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities under time pressure. Knowledge of local geography (Ottawa-Gatineau area) Key Competencies Team-oriented with a strong sense of responsibility and urgency. Regular interaction with drivers, yard staff, customers, and operations teams. Standard hours: Monday to Friday, with occasional early start or overtime during peak periods.
