I&C Engineer - Nuclear

Location: North York, Ontario In-Office Schedule: Fully in Office Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent Projects: Nuclear Salary: $155,000–$185,000 + Benefits & Pension (depending on experience) About the Role We are seeking an experienced Senior Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer to support engineering and design activities for major nuclear projects across Ontario Power Generation (Pickering and Darlington) and Bruce Power. Working within a highly regulated nuclear environment, you will provide technical leadership for I&C system modifications, plant upgrades, and life extension projects. You'll be involved throughout the engineering lifecycle—from design and Engineering Change (EC) package development through installation, commissioning, and return to service. The successful candidate will join a collaborative engineering team and participate in qualification programs aligned with the N299.1 Quality Assurance Program and OPG Design Engineer (DE) / Design Team Lead (DTL) qualification pathways. Key Responsibilities Engineering & Technical Design (50–75%) Design and modify instrumentation and control systems for nuclear generating stations. Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, and design documentation. Develop and update: Instrument loop diagrams Logic diagrams Wiring and termination drawings Control schematics Panel layouts Instrument data sheets Prepare Engineering Change (EC) packages using Asset Suite 9 (AS9). Review vendor documentation, equipment qualification records, and technical submittals. Develop commissioning procedures, test plans, and acceptance criteria. Participate in design reviews, constructability reviews, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and commissioning activities. Provide technical support during installation, startup, and troubleshooting. Project Delivery Lead engineering activities while ensuring compliance with schedule, budget, and quality requirements. Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering interfaces. Support project planning, forecasting, and scope management. Complete required engineering reviews and approvals. Field & Project Support Support installation and commissioning activities at Pickering, Darlington, and Bruce Power. Conduct field walkdowns and provide technical direction during construction. Resolve field issues and engineering inquiries. Prepare project close-out documentation in accordance with OPG engineering governance. Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related Engineering discipline. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario. Valid or previous OPG Security Clearance. Experience using Asset Suite 9 (AS9). Previous experience supporting nuclear generating stations, preferably OPG. Assets PMP designation OPG Design Engineer (DE), Design Team Lead (DTL), or Modification Team Lead (MTL) qualification Bruce Power experience Technical Experience Experience designing and supporting nuclear Instrumentation & Control systems, including: Plant instrumentation and process measurement systems Control systems and control logic PLC and DCS modifications Protective instrumentation Reactor and balance-of-plant control systems Field instrumentation, transmitters, switches, valves, and analyzers Instrument loop design and calibration requirements Control panel design and wiring Commissioning and testing of I&C equipment Experience with: Engineering Change Control (ECC) processes Asset Suite 9 (AS9) N-PROC-MP-0090 N-GUID-00700-10000 MOD Outlines MDRs COMS P-MOD / T-MOD processes Master EC and Design EC development EC wrap-around package preparation CSA N299.1 Nuclear Quality Assurance Program Knowledge of applicable industry standards including CSA, IEEE, ISA, and other nuclear I&C design standards is considered an asset. Mandatory Qualifications 4–10 years of Instrumentation & Controls engineering experience, preferably within the nuclear industry. Strong understanding of nuclear engineering governance and engineering change processes. Experience supporting engineering through design, installation, commissioning, and closeout. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Ability to lead technical discussions and coordinate multidisciplinary teams. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality within a regulated environment. Ability to work effectively in both office and plant environments. Previous leadership or project coordination experience is considered an asset.

The I&C Engineer will provide technical leadership for instrumentation and control system modifications and upgrades in a nuclear environment. Responsibilities include design, engineering change package development, installation, commissioning, and project support.

Candidates must have a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering and a Professional Engineer designation in Ontario. A minimum of 4-10 years of experience in Instrumentation & Controls engineering, preferably in the nuclear industry, is required.
