Position: OPERATIONS SUPPORT SPECIALIST ID No: 2-1555 Location: Calgary Description: Our Calgary office is currently recruiting a permanent, full-time Operations Support Specialist. As an Operational Support Specialist within our Automation & Controls team, you will be responsible for portions of project design, coordination, and technical execution. You will work through all project phases, from planning and detailed design to construction support, commissioning, and start‑up, and post‑construction support, while collaborating with a diverse team of automation professionals and electrical/controls engineers. Key Responsibilities Support clients’ technical operational needs remotely and on-site on an as-needed basis. Provide guidance and leadership in group meetings. Lead meetings as required. Provide ongoing feedback to staff and make feedback accessible to the Team Lead. Perform project management duties for operational support activities, not limited to client communication, cost estimates, meeting regulation, scheduling, project planning, and invoice review in collaboration with the Team Lead. Coordinate team resources to assist in troubleshooting and escalating issues. Troubleshoot PLC, HMIs, Ethernet Switches, Communications networks. Mentor junior engineers and technologists. Work and coordinate with contractors. Assist in control system design. Perform control system assessments. Develop control system upgrade strategies. Implement/specify secure network and remote access schemes. Educate clients through ad-hoc and structured training. Provide emergency support to clients. Qualifications At least 10 years of experience preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Background in electrical and instrumentation systems. Experience with a variety of automation software and hardware systems considered an asset, including: Allen Bradley, Schneider, Siemens, Emerson, Horner, Automation Direct PLCs. VTScada, iFIX, Ignition, FactoryTalk, AVEVA SCADA software. Red Lion, Maple, Allen Bradley, Automation Direct HMIs. Cellular and spread-spectrum radio communication infrastructure. Control system networking, VPN, Routers, Switches, OT infrastructure. Comfortable working in a variety of PLC, HMI, and SCADA programming platforms. Strong technical background of the Canadian Electrical Code and applicable industry standards. Experience working as a member of a multi-disciplinary engineering team. Willingness to travel to support maintenance and commissioning tasks. The individual must be self-motivated with good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplined team.
