Red Chris is an open-pit copper-gold mine in the famous Golden Triangle of northern British Columbia, situated on the traditional territory of the Tahltan Nation. As a fly-in, fly-out operation, Red Chris is reached via charter flights from multiple locations in BC and Alberta, with teams working on a rotational schedule. Currently an active open-pit producer, Red Chris is poised for an exciting transformation – we are developing a high-value underground block cave that will extend the mine’s life for decades and unlock even more resources. The remote location fosters a close-knit “camp” community where safety and teamwork come first. Your Contribution As a Project HSE Lead, you will provide senior health, safety and risk leadership for the Red Chris Block Cave Project. You will be accountable for leading project HSE execution across multiple contractors, work fronts, and high-risk construction activities while driving implementation of the Project HSE Operating System. This role provides significant influence and authority across project operations, contractor management, workforce readiness, critical risk management, incident investigation, and regulatory compliance. As a key member of the Project Functional Team, you will provide leadership continuity, develop HSE capability, and support the safe, efficient, and successful delivery of one of Canada's most significant mining projects As a part of our team, you will Provide senior HSE leadership across all project activities, ensuring effective implementation of the Project HSE Operating System and alignment with Newmont standards, regulatory requirements, and project objectives. Lead critical risk management, contractor governance, workforce readiness, mobilization, and assurance programs across multiple concurrent work fronts. Partner with Project Leadership, EPCM teams, and contractors to drive HSE performance, operational discipline, and safe project delivery. Oversee contractor prequalification, mobilization readiness, HSE deliverables, and field execution to ensure effective risk management and compliance. Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, organizational learning, and corrective action programs to strengthen project performance. Provide visible field leadership through workplace engagements, critical control verifications, audits, inspections, and coaching interactions. Monitor and communicate HSE performance, emerging risks, and improvement opportunities, ensuring timely intervention and informed decision-making. Mentor and develop HSE professionals, supervisors, and contractor leaders while building project capability and succession strength. Exercise the authority to intervene in, suspend, or stop work where unacceptable risk exists. Act as the Project HSE Director's delegate when required, providing leadership continuity and supporting both strategic initiatives and day-to-day project execution. Pre-requisites for your success in this role Degree qualified in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Science, or equivalent in a related discipline. Internationally recognized Health & Safety professional certification such as CMIOSH, CRSP, CSP, NEBOSH Diploma, Graduate IOSH, or equivalent. Significant experience leading Health, Safety and Risk Management programs within large-scale mining, EPCM, construction, commissioning, or major capital project environments. Demonstrated experience in Project HSE Manager, HSE Superintendent, or equivalent senior leadership positions on projects with large contractor workforces and multiple concurrent work fronts. Proven experience supporting the full project lifecycle, including front-end loading (FEL), mobilization, construction, commissioning, operational readiness, and project handover. Demonstrated capability developing, implementing, and assuring project-specific HSE Management Systems aligned with owner, EPCM, contractor, and regulatory requirements. Extensive experience leading contractor assurance programs, contractor prequalification, HSE deliverable reviews, mobilization readiness assessments, and field execution oversight. Advanced knowledge of Critical Risk Management, Fatality Risk Management, Permit to Work Systems, Isolation Management, SIMOPS, Change Management, and Contractor Management processes. Demonstrated experience leading incident investigations using recognized methodologies such as ICAM, Taproot, Essential Factors, or equivalent root-cause analysis systems. Proven ability to develop and lead workforce readiness, onboarding, training, competency assurance, and verification of competency (VOC) programs for large project workforces. Demonstrated success managing HSE performance across large multicultural workforces comprising multiple nationalities, contractor organizations, and stakeholder groups. Strong capability in project risk management workshops, construction risk assessments, commissioning risk assessments, and high-risk work planning. Experience working in remote FIFO project environments and providing operational and tactical HSE leadership across 24-hour project activities. Yor work environment This role will support the Red Chris Block Cave Project located in northern British Columbia. The position is fly-in fly-out and operates on a rotational schedule of 15 days on and 13 days off. You will work in a remote, high-altitude mining environment, supporting the development and execution of a large-scale underground mining project. Newmont provides coordinated transportation to and from site through designated marshalling points located in: Vancouver Kelowna Calgary Smithers Travel arrangements are coordinated to ensure safe and reliable access to site.
