Position Title: E11 2026 Major Case Mgmt Specialist Job Opening Id: 45868 Current Location(s): NRPS Headquarters # Required: 2 Association: Niagara Region Police Association Salary: $90,313.37 Anticipated Start Date: Immediately Post Date: 2026-07-29 Close Date: 2026-08-18 POSITION SUMMARY The Major Case Management Specialist is responsible for ensuring all investigative data gathered during major case investigations is entered and formatted into provincially mandated Major Case Management software (PowerCase), pursuant to the requirements laid out in the Ontario Major Case Management Manual. The position utilizes software to organize, manage, analyze, and retrieve investigative data. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES Uploads, indexes, and maintains critical case information/data into PowerCase software for NRPS and other police services to access and share information related to major crime investigations; unauthorized release of confidential information could result in breach of privacy and/or legal proceedings against the Service. Enters identifying information and evidence in PowerCase software, including, but not limited to photos, phone records, offline vehicle searches, canvass reports, and bank records; errors or omissions in entering data on PowerCase could have a significant adverse impact on court proceedings. Completes background checks in PowerCase for prospective employees as part of background investigation. Supports the Major Case Manager, File Coordinator, and Lead investigator in managing major case investigations, including analyzing and reviewing report data to highlight investigative value. Assists investigative branches in creating new incidents and assigning officers within PowerCase software. Ensures documents are organized in accordance with the filing framework dictated by Ontario Major Case Management Manual and mandated by the Ministry of the Solicitor General. Prepares/redacts disclosure packages by combining investigative materials, including prosecution summaries, police statements, civilian statements, duty book notes, judicial authorizations, CFS reports, autopsy reports, and other relevant material. Reviews surveillance video footage and completes reports with findings, as required. Assists crime analysts in creating charts, diagrams, and timelines for major cases to provide investigators with a clear visual representation of the data. Manages incoming investigative tips from Crimestoppers tipsters and confidential informants in accordance with NRPS procedures and ensures all pertinent information is retained. Transcribes interviews, 911 calls and other media files as required. Carries out duties as a Commissioner of Oaths for affidavits to be submitted to the courts and swearing in subjects of KGB statements, including at off-site locations. Generates and analyzes monthly and annual statistics on PowerCase usage, ViCLAS submissions, reported major cases and investigation status. Tracks and maintains records of PowerCase trigger matches and ViCLAS returns and sends follow-up trigger notifications to investigators. Audits case conclusions to ensure that documents and entities are updated in PowerCase. Provides guidance to NRPS members on PowerCase and ViCLAS. Other duties as assigned. JOB SPECIFICATIONS (Required Education, Experience, etc.) Successful completion of a two (2) year college diploma in a relevant field (e.g., criminal justice, behavioural science, criminology), plus a minimum of two (2) years related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated experience supporting investigations and criminal investigation management through data analysis and the use of case management systems (e.g., PowerCase). Advanced computer skills in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and familiarity with related software (e.g., RMS/CAD, ViCLAS, Nora, CPIC, CNI MTO). Demonstrated strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with high attention to detail, and the ability to interpret, synthesize, and evaluate raw investigative and intelligence data into accurate, actionable information. Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and listening skills, with the ability to communicate and present complex information to internal and external stakeholders, including Crown Attorneys, police services, and provincial partners. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently or as part of a team. Knowledge of provincial and federal regulations regarding crime analysis and law enforcement, including Major Case Management, O.Reg 394/23 and ViCLAS O.Reg 550/96. Knowledge of Criminal Code, and Youth Criminal Justice Act numbering system, as well as Major Case Management standards and NRPS procedures. Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record. Successful completion of the Ontario Police College “Managing Investigations Using PowerCase” course (provided on-the-job). PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS Periods of sustained keyboarding. Sustained periods of moderate mental concentration and/or occasional periods of high mental concentration. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed in uncomfortable or tight spaces at times. Exposure to emotionally sensitive situations. Work is subject to multiple and/or simultaneous deadlines and urgent requests. Work is subject to interruptions. Workspace lacks privacy at times. Exposure to disturbing visual, auditory, or written content. Travel within the Niagara Region as needed. May be required to work outside regular business hours to support Major Case Investigations and other high priority investigative matters.
