Mechanical Engineer Noratel Canada | Mississauga, Ontario For a hands-on mechanical engineer who wants to see their designs move from concept to production and make a real impact across manufacturing operations in Canada, the United States, and Mexico. About the job We are looking for a practical, detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer to support the design and development of transformer and reactor product lines for Noratel Canada and Noratel US. Based in Mississauga, Ontario, you will take ownership of the mechanical design and documentation lifecycle - from reviewing customer requirements and assessing technical feasibility through CAD design, simulation, BOM creation, sourcing, and production release. This is a role for an engineer who enjoys combining technical design work with close collaboration across manufacturing, suppliers, and international teams. You will play an important part in ensuring that our products are accurate, manufacturable, cost-effective, and fully supported by high-quality technical documentation. Key ResponsibilitiesMechanical Design and Simulation Design and revise mechanical parts and assemblies using 3D CAD software, including Autodesk Inventor or similar tools Produce accurate 2D manufacturing drawings for parts and assemblies Perform FEM, structural, and thermal simulations to validate design performance Review customer specifications, drawings, and technical requirements to assess feasibility Develop practical, cost-effective, and manufacturable design solutions Documentation and Engineering Change Management Prepare equipment manuals, repair instructions, manufacturing procedures, test procedures, and technical reports Create, review, approve, and implement engineering changes Maintain accurate and up-to-date drawings, specifications, and design records Ensure documentation complies with applicable quality management and regulatory requirements BOM and ERP Management Create and maintain bills of materials and manufacturing routers within an ERP system, such as Sage500 Enter and update component, material, routing, and part information Ensure technical and manufacturing data remains complete, accurate, and aligned across systems Sourcing and Supplier Collaboration Source components and raw materials for new product development, cost-reduction projects, and regulatory compliance Request and review quotations from vendors and fabricators Work closely with suppliers to optimize designs for cost, quality, availability, and manufacturability Manufacturing Support and Continuous Improvement Provide technical support to production teams and partner facilities across Canada, the United States, and Mexico Support troubleshooting, design clarification, and resolution of manufacturing issues Identify and implement improvements across design, documentation, sourcing, and production processes Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and other cross-functional teams Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline Minimum three years of mechanical design experience within a manufacturing environment Proficiency in 3D CAD design and 2D technical drafting; Autodesk Inventor experience is preferred Experience with FEM, structural, or thermal simulation Practical understanding of design for manufacturing and assembly Experience creating and maintaining BOMs and routers within an ERP system Working knowledge of international safety and product standards, including IEC, UL, and CSA Strong technical writing and documentation skills Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a deadline-driven environment Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across functions, cultures, and locations Spanish language skills are considered an asset Key Competencies Hands-on and solutions-oriented engineering approach Strong attention to detail and documentation discipline Manufacturing mindset with a focus on practical implementation Analytical thinking and structured problem-solving Ability to remain effective under pressure Collaborative, accountable, and proactive working style Why Noratel This role offers the opportunity to work on highly customized technical products and follow your designs through the full engineering and manufacturing process.
