THE OPPORTUNITY We have an exciting opportunity for a Vice President, Finance to join a local, privately owned, growing company based in Edmonton, Alberta. Reporting to the President, the Vice President, Finance will be responsible for modernizing the accounting functions to drive the company’s metrics and performance to optimizing business processes. This role has a blend of strategic, out-of-the-box thinking while still being tactical to ensure bank reconciliation, monthly reporting and inventory controls are being performed in a timely manner. RESPONSIBILITIES The Vice President, Finance will have specific responsibilities for: Strategy, Vision, and Leadership: Advise company executives on financial planning, budgeting, cash flow, and investment priorities. Serve as the management liaison to the shareholders or executives, effectively communicating critical financial matters. Contribute to developing strategic goals and objectives, maintaining continuous communication between stakeholders. Represent the organization externally, particularly in banking. Property accounting for related companies and accounting for 2 holding companies. Other duties as assigned. Team Development/Leadership: Oversee, direct, and organize the work of finance and operations teams. Promote a culture of high performance, continuous improvement, and commitment to quality. Partner with Executives to establish and monitor shared services performance metrics. Ensure staff members receive timely and appropriate training and development. Operations: Upgrade and implement an appropriate system of policies, internal controls, and procedures. Develop tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information to stakeholders. Plan, coordinate, and execute the annual budget process. Oversee the approval and processing of revenue, expenditure, and position control documents. Ensure compliance with local, provincial, federal, and reporting requirements. Tactical Duties: Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records. Provide internal customer support to all departments and retail locations. Complete bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations. Build out budgets and implement variance reporting for actuals to budget. Compile and submit monthly GST returns. Track and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) monthly. Continuous improvement of accounting policies, procedures, and controls. QUALIFICATIONS 7+ years of experience in accounting operations. CPA Designation with a Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Extensive experience and knowledge in dealing with accounting systems, budgets, and internal controls. Knowledge and experience with full-cycle bookkeeping. KEY COMPETENCIES Proven track record of facilitating progressive organizational change and development. Strong mentoring, coaching experience in a team with diverse levels of expertise. Entrepreneurial team player with the ability to work independently in a dynamic setting. Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Actively seeks out and drives opportunities for improving processes and automation. Enthusiastic and team-focused attitude with excellent problem-solving skills.
