Railway Labourer Full-time Seasonal Location: Based out of BC, this position may require travel throughout BC from 5-21 days at a time depending on the shift. Reporting to the Foreman, the Railway Labourer is responsible for performing railway track construction, maintenance, and repair activities to support the safe and efficient operation of rail infrastructure. This role involves working with hand tools, small equipment, and track materials in a physically demanding outdoor environment while adhering to all safety requirements. Job Requirements Track Construction/Maintenance Experience Required: Previous railway track construction or maintenance experience is mandatory. No exceptions. Small Equipment Experience: General understanding of how to operate equipment such as rail saws, drills, grinders, pullers, air compressors, bolters, and backpack blowers. Hand Tool Experience: General understanding of how to use tools such as spike mauls, claw bars, drift pins, track jacks, shovels, picks, brooms, and scythes. Flexibility: Ability and willingness to travel to remote work locations as required. Shift Availability: Be prepared to work all shifts, including weekends and nights. Self-Sufficiency: Ability to support yourself until your first paycheck arrives and willingness to share hotel accommodations when required. Valid Driver's License: Minimum valid Class 5 (non-GDL) or Class G driver's license with a clean driver's abstract. Metatarsal Work Boots: Willingness to invest in 8-inch metatarsal work boots (not basic work boots). Fit-for-Duty: Successfully pass criminal record check, drug and alcohol screening, and physical fitness testing, including lifting up to 50 lbs. eRailSafe Badge: Successfully complete all required eRailSafe training and testing. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities This work involves: Pulling track spikes. Applying rail anchors. Shoveling crushed rock and ballast. Frequent bending, lifting, carrying, and pushing up to 50 lbs. Repetitive physical tasks in varying weather conditions. Loading and unloading heavy materials such as rails, spikes, tie plates, joint bars, tools, and equipment. Preparing, using, and maintaining various common and specialized railway hand tools. Correcting track surface, alignment, and gauge deviations. Assisting with rail, tie, and crossing installations and replacements. Clearing railway crossings, right-of-ways, brush, and vegetation using handheld tools and equipment. Removing and installing tie plates and fastening systems. Supporting winter operations, including snow removal. Occasional operation of company vehicles and support equipment. Working safely around heavy machinery, railroad equipment, and active railway operations. Following all company, client, and regulatory safety procedures and policies. #WABR1611
