RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead Mechanical Engineering activities from concept/FEED through detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and start-up, taking technical ownership of assigned mechanical scope and ensuring deliverables meet project, client, code and regulatory requirements. Establish and review mechanical design criteria, engineering philosophies, specifications and equipment selection requirements, and provide technical direction on calculations, datasheets, specifications and other engineering deliverables. Lead the selection and specification of mechanical equipment, including pumps, compressors, pressure vessels, storage tanks, heat exchangers, packages, loading/unloading equipment and material handling systems. Lead the preparation and review of equipment requisitions, RFQs and technical bid evaluations, and manage technical communications with equipment vendors, including review of vendor documentation. Lead multidisciplinary coordination with Process, Piping, Civil/Structural, Electrical, Instrumentation and other disciplines to resolve technical and design issues. Evaluate equipment and piping interfaces, including nozzle loads, piping reactions, thermal movement, flexibility, support requirements and constructability; review piping stress analysis and coordinate resolution of interface issues with Piping Stress Engineers. Lead or review HVAC design requirements for industrial buildings and facilities, where applicable, and interpret applicable codes, standards and regulatory requirements to resolve technical issues. Lead technical, constructability, HAZOP/HAZID and client engineering reviews as required, and provide technical support during construction, commissioning and start-up. Resolve complex technical and field engineering issues, identify technical risks and recommend practical engineering solutions. Mentor Junior and Intermediate Engineers and provide technical guidance to Designers, supporting the development of engineering capabilities within the team. Support Project Managers and Engineering Managers with mechanical scope, schedule, technical risks and client requirements. Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of company mechanical standards, specifications and engineering practices. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university and registration as a P.Eng. with APEGA is required; registration with PEO and/or EGBC is considered an asset. 8–10+ years of progressive mechanical engineering experience, with significant EPC experience and increasing levels of technical responsibility. Strong mechanical engineering design and project execution experience in industrial, oil and gas, midstream, NGL/LPG, fuel terminal, storage, loading/unloading or material handling facilities. Demonstrated experience leading mechanical equipment selection, specification, procurement, technical evaluations, bid evaluations and vendor engineering. Strong knowledge of applicable ASME, API, CSA, NFPA, ABSA and client/project requirements. Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary engineering interfaces and coordinating deliverables across disciplines, including Process Basis of Design, Site Layout, P&IDs, SLDs and Area Classification. Strong understanding of piping flexibility, piping stress analysis, equipment nozzle loads and mechanical/piping interfaces. Experience supporting construction, including RFI handling, commissioning and start-up is preferred; HVAC design/review experience for industrial facilities is considered an asset. Demonstrated technical leadership and mentoring experience, with the ability to manage multiple technical priorities and lead assigned mechanical scope with limited supervision. Strong engineering judgment, problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a practical approach to resolving technical issues. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with clients, vendors, project teams and other disciplines.
