Position Summary Certified Rehab-Physio Assistant, Professional Practice Your goal in this position is to implement a treatment plan as prescribed by the supervising occupational and/or physical therapist, observing and reporting changes in patient status with team members, performing administrative duties, and maintaining a clean and hazard free environment. You demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, effortlessly connecting with supervising therapist, physicians, staff, patients and families, and display a high degree of professionalism. You have the ability to lead group sessions and motivate patients to participate, and work in a physically demanding, challenging environment. You have the ability to adapt to a changing workload and have great organizational skills. You are a critical thinker, and will prioritize and work in a collaborative inter-professional team setting. This position supports the Hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for staff, physicians, volunteers, learners, patients and families. On a practical level, you will Carry out exercise programs with patients on an individual or group basis, and assist with gait training as prescribed by the physiotherapist. Carry out appropriate patient transfers and demonstrating safe lifting techniques and proper body mechanics to nursing staff and patients’ families as instructed by the occupational and/or physical therapist Carry out individual ADL training with patients to facilitate independence as prescribed by the occupational therapist Conduct therapeutic activity groups under the supervision of an occupational therapist once or twice weekly Set-up and manage equipment and supplies. Clean and maintain equipment and therapy space. Complete documentation and workload data in a timely manner. Act as a preceptor to OTA/PTA students. Qualifications Diploma from an accredited college Occupational Therapy Assistant/Physiotherapy Assistant (OTA/PTA) program Ability to apply physiotherapeutic modalities Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification Experience in medical in-patient acute setting Proficient with computers, MS Word, internet searches, data entry and patient information systems. This is a Part Time Temporary (18 months contract) position with 8 hour shifts, day, and evening shifts including weekends, in the Professional Practice unit.
