Req ID: 224553 Location: Central Zone, Department Type of Employment: Permanent Hourly FT (100%) x 1 Union: Healthcare Position Posting Closing Date: 20-Aug-26 About The Opportunity The Medical Laboratory Technologist performs analytical tests and procedures offered by the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine using appropriate methodologies and quality assurance techniques. The Medical Laboratory Technologist possesses the technical ability and problem-solving skills to perform all tests (both manual and automated) in the clinical and environmental laboratories. Performs laboratory tests with a network of steps and variables according to established protocols and works with little or no supervision in emergency and weekend/night situations. Operates instruments that are often computer integrated and networked and uses computerized information systems. Compares test results to pre-established criteria (reference intervals) and makes decisions regarding the reportability of results, thus exercising independent judgment. Stressful working conditions require the Medical Laboratory Technologist to be tactful, sensitive and able to communicate effectively and professionally. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times as deemed essential by the Medical Laboratory Technologist Code of Conduct. Hours One (1) Permanent part-time position; 60 hours biweekly - Clinical Laboratory, Cobequid Community Health Centre One (1) Permanent full-time position; 75 hours biweekly - Esoteric Toxicology - QEII Three (3) Permanent full-time positions; 75 hours biweekly - Core - QEII One (1) Permanent full-time position; 75 hours biweekly - Clinical Laboratory, Dartmouth General Hospital One (1) Long Assignment full-time position; 75 hours bi-weekly (approximately 12 months) -Clinical Laboratory, Dartmouth General Hospital Compensation And Benefits $33.20 - $42.47 hourly Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan. The Medical Laboratory Technologist performs analytical tests and procedures using manual and automated methodologies within clinical and environmental laboratories. They are responsible for interpreting results against reference intervals and ensuring strict patient confidentiality.

Candidates must be graduates of an approved Medical Laboratory Technologist program and hold licensure with NSRMLS or eligibility for CSMLS registration. Ability to work shiftwork, including weekends and holidays, and a willingness to travel are required.
