Optillium is based in Calgary, Alberta, and supports organizations across Canada. The opportunity Reporting to Optillium's delivery leadership, the Business Analyst will act as a bridge between client stakeholders and technical delivery teams across data, analytics, automation, and software projects. The role will lead requirements discovery, process analysis, stakeholder workshops, business-rule documentation, user stories, acceptable criteria, UAT coordination, and delivery traceability. This position is suited to someone who can turn ambiguous business needs into clear, testable requirements and keep business and technical teams aligned from discovery through deployment. The Business Analyst will work closely with Data Engineers, Data Analysts, project leadership, and client subject-matter experts to support successful implementation and adoption of data and technology solutions. Key responsibilities Include: Facilitating stakeholder workshops, interviews, discovery sessions, and requirements-gathering activities. Eliciting, analyzing, documenting, and validating business, functional, non-functional, data, and reporting requirements. Mapping current-state (AS-IS) processes and defining future-state (TO-BE) workflows, business rules, dependencies, and control points. Creating business requirements, functional specifications, user stories, use cases, acceptance, criteria, process flows, and traceability artefacts. Documenting KPIs, metric definitions, calculations, filters, business rules, reporting expectations, and data-validation criteria. Working with technical teams to translate business needs into implementable technical requirements and delivery priorities. Supporting data-source discovery, source systems access planning, field mapping, and business interpretation of source data. Supporting backlog refinement, sprint planning, prioritization, change requests, scope clarification, and impact analysis. Maintaining risks, assumptions, issues, dependencies, decisions, action items, and stakeholder follow-ups. Preparing UAT strategies, test scenarios, test cases, expected results, and business-validation plans. Coordination UAT execution, defect triage, retesting, evidence collection, business sign-of, and production-readiness activities. Supporting data-migration and report reconciliation by validating outcomes against approved business rules and legacy baselines. Coordinating with client stakeholders, vendors, subject-matter experts, and technical resources to resolve ambiguities and dependencies. Preparing status updates, decision summaries, meeting notes, requirements documentation, and implementation artefacts. Supporting change management, user readiness, training coordination, knowledge transfer, and post-deployment validation. Identifying opportunities to improve processes, reporting, controls, and user experience through data, automation, or system design. Performing other business analysis and project delivery duties as assigned. The Ideal Candidate Will Possess: A bachelor’s degree or diploma in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Analysis, or related field; equivalent practical experience will also be considered. Approximately 3+ years of experience in business analysis, systems analysis, functional consulting, project delivery, or a related role. Demonstrated experience with requirements elicitation, stakeholder interviews, workshops, process mapping, and requirements documentation. Experience creating user stories, acceptance criteria, business requirements, functional specifications, and process flows. Hands-on experience supporting UAT, test planning, defect tracking, sign-off, or implementation validation. Strong ability to translate business needs into clear, testable, traceable requirements for technical teams. Working knowledge of data concepts such as KPIs, data quality, data flows, ETL/ELT, dashboards, reporting, or analytics platforms. Proficiency with Excel and Microsoft 365 tools; exposure to Power BI, SQL, Jira, Azure DevOps, Confluence, Visio, or Lucidchart is an asset. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, organization, and attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with confidence working across technical and non-technical stakeholder groups. Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain documentation discipline, and work effectively in Agile, hybrid, or structured project environments. Assets / Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting data-platform modernization, BI/reporting, ERP/CRM, cloud migration, or systems-integration initiatives. Experience with Power BI, SQL, Microsoft Fabric, Azure data services, or data-migration projects. CBAP, CCBA, PMI-PBA, Scrum, Product Owner, or comparable certification. Experience working with public-sector, finance, professional services, or other operationally complex organizations. Compensation & Benefits Base Salary Range: $58,000 - $80,000 annually. This range represents Optillium's expected base-salary band for this position. Actual compensation will be determined based on the candidate's skill, experience, certifications, scope of responsibility, and overall fit for the role. Any additional bonus, benefits, or other compensation components applicable to the successful candidate will be communicated during the offer process. Conditions of Employment Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. Must be able to work from Calgary, Alberta and attend to client or team meetings in Alberta when reasonably required.
