As a Recreation Programmer, you will play a key role in designing and delivering a diverse range of activities, outings, and events that promote the physical, mental, and social well-being of our residents. Reporting to the Senior Property Manager and working closely with the Program Manager, the successful candidate will develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate recreation and wellness programs that reflect the interests, abilities, and needs of residents. This involves conducting informal recreation and wellness assessments, training and overseeing the staff and volunteers who assist with activities and events, safely accompanying residents on community outings using public transit, and keeping recreation spaces, equipment, and supplies safe, organized, and well maintained. The role also includes engaging community service providers and partners, connecting residents with recreation, education, cultural, volunteer, and wellness opportunities, and supporting residents in overcoming barriers to participation. Regularly evaluating program impact, gathering participant feedback, and ensuring all activities adhere to safety guidelines and protocols will be central to the role. QUALIFICATIONS The ideal candidate for this position will have a diploma or degree in therapeutic recreation, recreation, community development, social services, human services, mental health, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A current Level 1 First Aid certificate and a Class 5 Driver’s License are required. Experience as a Mental Health Worker and experience running fitness programs are assets. Core competencies include effective interpersonal, facilitation, and communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with the client group and as part of a staff team. The candidate should bring knowledge of event planning practices and techniques, the ability to develop program-related reference and resource materials, proficiency in computer skills, and a problem-solving approach. Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently, set priorities and meet deadlines are essential, as is the ability to identify sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality. The position also requires physical ability, sensitivity to cultural and lifestyle diversity, a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, and the flexibility to work shifts including evenings and weekends. This role requires the incumbent to undergo a Police Information Check (PIC), and a Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Justice. The Recreation Programmer will design, coordinate, and implement wellness and recreation activities to enhance the physical and social well-being of residents. They are also responsible for overseeing staff and volunteers, managing equipment, and ensuring all programs adhere to safety protocols.

Candidates must hold a diploma or degree in a relevant field such as therapeutic recreation or social services, along with a Class 5 Driver’s License and Level 1 First Aid certificate. The role requires the ability to work independently, manage diverse resident needs, and pass a Police Information and Vulnerable Sector check.
