What You’ll Do: The Manager, Payroll is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and participating in the day-to-day operations of the Payroll function to ensure payroll is processed accurately, compliantly, and on time. This role oversees the bi-weekly payroll process, supports payroll processing activities, and provides leadership and guidance to payroll staff. The Manager is accountable for the integrity of payroll data within the HRIS, ensures compliance with applicable payroll legislation and regulatory requirements, supports payroll reconciliations and audits, resolves complex payroll issues, and identifies opportunities to improve payroll processes and service delivery. Reporting to the Senior Manager of HR Operations, the core parts of your role will be to: Oversee the accurate and timely administration of bi-weekly payroll for 1,000+ employees, including payroll processing, earnings, deductions, benefits, remittances, year-end activities, and compliance with applicable legislation. Maintain payroll records, employee data, payroll schedules and Records of Employment (ROEs) within the HRIS (Ceridian Dayforce HCM). Provide leadership, coaching, and guidance to payroll staff, including recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, and workload prioritization, as required. Ensure the integrity and confidentiality of payroll data and ensure payroll processes are administered in accordance with established controls, procedures, and organizational policies. Maintain knowledge of applicable federal and provincial payroll legislation and ensures payroll processes and regulatory filings comply with legislative requirements and recommends changes to payroll processes or policies as required. Support payroll reconciliations by collaborating with Finance to reconcile payroll accounts, investigate discrepancies, and support month-end and year-end financial reporting. Act as the primary escalation point for complex payroll matters and provides guidance and support regarding payroll processes, policies, and escalated payroll inquiries. Support internal and external audits by providing payroll documentation, reports, reconciliations, and other audit requirements. Prepare payroll reports, reconciliations, and supporting information for management, Human Resources, and Finance. Participate in payroll-related projects and identifies opportunities for process improvements and system enhancements. Represent Payroll on cross-functional projects and initiatives, as required. Perform other related duties as assigned. Let’s Talk About You: This is the unique blend of skills and experience we would love to see in an ideal candidate: College diploma in Human Resources, Payroll, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field. Certified Payroll designation or equivalent professional payroll certification. Minimum 5-7 years of progressive payroll experience, including a minimum of 2 years in a leadership or management role. Experience administering multi-provincial Canadian payrolls in a complex organizational environment. Demonstrated expertise in payroll year-end processes, including T4s, RL-1s, taxable benefits, pension adjustments, and government reporting requirements. Strong knowledge of Canadian federal and provincial payroll legislation. Experience working with HRIS/payroll systems; Ceridian Dayforce HCM experience is required. Advanced knowledge of payroll controls, reconciliations, and audit requirements. Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial systems. Excellent analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills. Strong customer service orientation with exceptional communication and relationship-management skills. Ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive information with discretion. The ability to communicate in French is considered an asset Salary Range: This position offers a competitive salary within a range from $87,731 to $120, 686, along with rewarding bonuses that recognize your dedication.
