The Ottawa Power Wheelchair Hockey League (OPWHL) is seeking volunteer coaches for the 2026–2027 season. Coaches help create a positive, competitive, and inclusive environment for our athletes while supporting player development, teamwork, and enjoyment of the game. The OPWHL plays on Sunday afternoons at the Diane Deans Greenboro Community Centre in Ottawa, with the season running from October through May. Training and ongoing support will be provided by the league. Responsibilities Support and lead a team throughout the OPWHL season Help organize players during practices and games Encourage teamwork, sportsmanship, and player development Assist with game strategy, positioning, substitutions, and team communication Create a welcoming and positive environment for athletes of varying abilities and experience levels Communicate with players, families, fellow coaches, and league staff as needed Work collaboratively with the OPWHL volunteer and coaching community Qualifications Reliable and able to attend Sunday league sessions throughout the season Strong communication and interpersonal skills Positive, patient, and team-oriented approach Interest in coaching, adaptive sport, hockey, recreation, or community involvement Comfortable working with athletes with disabilities Willingness to learn the rules and structure of power wheelchair hockey Ability to work collaboratively and contribute to an inclusive sporting environment This is a great opportunity to become part of Ottawa’s adaptive sport community, build meaningful connections, and make a direct impact on our athletes and league.
