Join us in our mission to create a better hiring experience TITLE Senior Financial Analyst, Food Manufacturing SALARY RANGE $100,000 - $120,000 CASH BONUS Discretionary THE PERKS Standard health benefits Extended health benefits On-site parking Professional development support LOCATION Mississauga, ON THE OFFICE Hybrid (4 Days In-Office) TEAM SIZE Under 10 people THE ROLE A key contributor on the Finance team responsible for driving month-end financial close, SKU-level profitability analysis, capital project tracking, and compliance reporting within a private equity-backed food manufacturing operation. Month-End Close & Financial Reporting (30%) Profitability & Margin Analysis (35%) CapEx Project Tracking & Reporting (20%) Compliance & Regulatory Reporting (15%) THE TASKS Month-End Close & Financial Reporting Lead the full month-end closing cycle including reconciliations, schedule maintenance, and working paper updates Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records Prepare monthly reporting packages for private equity stakeholders using established templates Support quarter-end and year-end financial close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting Download and validate transactional data from the ERP system to support close activities Profitability & Margin Analysis Perform SKU-level contribution margin analysis across 100+ products, incorporating material cost, labor cost, overhead allocation, rebates, commissions, and freight Maintain and update the margin analysis master file containing 70,000+ rows of historical sales and cost data sourced from the ERP Build and manage Excel-based pivot tables to analyze profitability by product category, customer, and SKU to identify pricing and recipe optimization opportunities Manually track and allocate labor costs at the SKU level using ADP payroll data and Excel, bridging the gap between the ERP and full cost visibility Prepare trend analyses on material costs, labor rates, and overhead to support management decision-making on pricing and production strategy Use VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, and calculated pivot table fields to reconcile and validate cost components as freight and rebate entries update in subsequent periods CapEx Project Tracking & Reporting Track and report on a multi-million dollar facility expansion project, monitoring spend against budget and project milestones Prepare progress reports for approved government funding grants, ensuring compliance with reporting deadlines and requirements Support bank covenant reporting and financial analysis related to capital investment financing Compliance & Regulatory Reporting Coordinate with external auditors on annual audit activities, ensuring requests are completed accurately and on time Prepare and file Canadian government surveys and US tax reporting requirements Support compliance with applicable accounting standards and internal financial controls THE COMPANY An established food manufacturing company specializing in multi-layer baked goods production with a sophisticated inventory costing system and a diverse portfolio of over 100 SKUs. THE OPPORTUNITY An opportunity to gain full-picture visibility into a manufacturing business, from raw material costing through to contribution margin analysis, capital project tracking, and private equity reporting. THE EXPECTATIONS TIMELINE PREVIEW By Month 1 Complete onboarding and training on the ERP system (Business Central), chart of accounts, and existing Excel templates Maintain general ledger entries and update monthly working paper schedules Build working relationships with the accounting team and cross-functional stakeholders By Month 3 Lead the month-end closing process with minimal supervision Understand and contribute to approximately half of the margin analysis workload Demonstrate comfort navigating the margin analysis master file and pivot table reporting workbook Begin supporting CapEx and compliance reporting activities By Month 6 Independently complete the full month-end close cycle Own the majority of the SKU-level profitability and margin analysis process Take on increased responsibility for government funding reports and bank covenant deliverables Proactively identify cost trends and flag anomalies in material, labor, and overhead data By Month 12 Operate with full autonomy across all areas of the role including close, margin analysis, CapEx, and compliance Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the company’s inventory costing system and manufacturing financial operations Contribute to strategic discussions with senior management on profitability improvement and cost optimization Be positioned as a capable successor for broader finance responsibilities over time THE SKILL SET CPA, CMA, or equivalent designation (or in progress) 3+ years in financial accounting and analysis Advanced Excel proficiency
