POSITION Civil Engineer LOCATION Flexible (occasional travel to project sites required) DEPARTMENT Engineering and Construction REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS The Civil Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager and collaborates closely with project managers, engineers in the engineering and construction team and third-party engineers, the environmental team and contractors. Accountabilities And Key Functions The Civil Engineer supports the Engineering team in developing Potentia’s utility-scale PV solar, wind, and battery energy storage projects across Canada and the US. The role provides civil engineering and technical support throughout the project development cycle from early site assessment through design, procurement and construction support, helping ensure projects are delivered according to Potentia and regulatory technical requirements. Ad-hoc support to Potentia’s operations team will also be required. Role & Responsibilities Engineering Design & Construction Support Develop engineering scopes of work and technical requirements for the civil and site works of PV solar, wind and energy storage projects. Review and provide technical insight on civil designs including structural foundations, steel structures, site layout, grading, drainage and stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, and access roads. Coordinate with third-party engineering firms to ensure civil designs comply with Potentia and regulatory technical requirements. Maintain a working knowledge of applicable codes, standards and existing and new technologies and their application to Potentia’s projects. Review and comment on contractor plans including methodologies, ITPs, construction schedules, etc. and provide support through construction including reviewing QA/QC data, non-conformances and site visits/inspections as required. Contract, Procurement & Cost Support Assist project teams in preparing and evaluating engineering and construction contractor Requests for Proposals (RFPs). Support cost estimating and procurement of project civil works and site infrastructure. Due Diligence & Risk Assist with technical due diligence for potential renewable project acquisitions, including site suitability, geotechnical and constructability considerations. Support risk management by escalating technical issues and potential schedule risks. Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement Participate in meetings with consultants, contractors and suppliers to help manage engineering deliverables and schedules. Participate in internal project team meetings and present on technical issues or risks. Lead meetings and coordination between contractors and authorities having jurisdiction to ensure compliance with permitting and site development requirements. Operations Support Provide technical support to the operations teams as required for operating projects. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Experience with site civil design — foundations, grading, drainage and stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, and access roads. Experience with geotechnical investigation and its application to renewable project design. Experience with complex, large-scale engineering projects. Ability to manage multiple projects and activities and organize work to meet deadlines. Strong and effective written and verbal communication skills. Technical Skills Proficiency with civil design and drafting tools and familiarity with hydrology/drainage and grading software to aid in design reviews. Proficiency with using AI tools including Copilot and Claude co-work. Familiarity with project-scheduling tools (e.g., Primavera P6, Microsoft Project). Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Ability to travel throughout North America, although travel to project sites is not a primary responsibility of the role. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. Minimum of 5 years of experience in renewable energy projects or projects with transferrable skills. Registered P.Eng in at least one province in Canada. Compensation Base salary range: $110,000 to $130,000 CAD, commensurate with experience. Target annual bonus: 10% of base salary.
