Job Summary The Tax Accountant is a hands-on role responsible for preparing and supporting personal and corporate income tax engagements across a diverse client portfolio. This role suits a tax professional with solid technical grounding in Canadian tax compliance and practical T1 and T2 preparation experience who is looking to build a long-term career in tax within a growing public accounting practice. We are looking for someone who is fully committed to the role and fully equipped to perform from day one: dependable, accurate, coachable, and ready to put in the work required during peak tax season. This is not a stepping-stone position, it is an opportunity for a genuinely engaged professional to grow with the firm. Hours The Tax Accountant is expected to work 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. Hours increase significantly during personal and corporate tax season, and full availability during this period is required. This role is based primarily in-office, with hybrid flexibility as determined by management. Key Responsibilities Prepare personal (T1) and corporate (T2) income tax returns for a diverse client base, including owner-managed businesses Ensure accuracy, completeness, and CRA compliance across all assigned filings Support tax planning engagements for owner-managed Canadian domestic clients Contribute to the tax department’s workflow, processes, and file completion during tax season Draft correspondence with the CRA, including responses to assessments and audit inquiries, for review and sign-off Communicate directly with clients on routine tax matters, escalating complex issues as needed Assist in the preparation of quarterly and year-end tax provisions and related reconciliations Track and manage tax installment schedules for corporate and individual clients Coordinate with the bookkeeping and accounting teams on financial statements used in tax filings Research technical tax issues and support implementation of practical planning solutions Stay current on new tax legislation relevant to the client base Take ownership of assigned files, including budgeting, work-in-progress tracking, and meeting deadlines Support quality-control and administrative processes within the tax department Competencies Minimum 2–3 years of experience in personal and corporate tax preparation within a public accounting firm (required) Demonstrated, hands-on experience preparing T1 personal and T2 corporate tax returns Enrollment in, or genuine commitment to pursuing, the CPA designation and In-Depth Tax Program is an asset, though not required Solid working knowledge of Canadian personal and corporate tax legislation and CRA compliance requirements Clear, professional client communication skills Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced, high-volume environment Detail-oriented, accurate, and dependable, with a genuinely proactive work ethic Fully committed to the role, with the availability and reliability the position demands, especially during tax season Self-starter who works well independently and as part of a team Knowledge of tax and accounting software, TaxCycle, Karbon, QuickBooks, Caseware, preferred Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Outlook, Excel, and Word Education & Designation University degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required) CPA designation, or active progress toward it, is a strong asset Enrollment in the CPA In-Depth Tax Program (CICA) is an asset, not a requirement, at this level Experience Preferred TaxCycle: 1–2 years Karbon (CRM): working familiarity Caseware / QuickBooks: 1–2 years T1 Personal Tax Preparation: prior season experience required T2 Corporate Tax Preparation: prior exposure required Compensation & Benefits CA$60,000 – CA$75,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications Benefits for full-time employees after the 3-month probationary period Health and life benefits Paid vacation Year-end bonuses (if applicable)
