About the Opportunity: The Machinist III role is the highest-level machinist position, suited for highly experienced professionals who consistently demonstrate technical excellence, precision, and leadership in machining operations. Working under general supervision, this role requires full mastery of CNC, EDM, and manual machining processes, as well as the ability to mentor peers, troubleshoot issues, and drive quality standards across the shop floor. As a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on multiple machines, the Machinist III plays a key role in supporting complex operations, solving production challenges, and maintaining a safe, efficient, and collaborative work environment. This posting is an existing vacancy within Pursuit Aerospace. Location: Orillia, Ontario This is an Onsite position and an active opening. Responsibilities: * Operate all manual, CNC, or EDM machines independently to complete complex machining operations as outlined in process documentation * Change, set, and adjust precision tools to meet operational requirements * Load, create, and delete programs from CNC systems as required * Fine-tune machine feeds and speeds to ensure precision and efficiency * Grind own cutting tools and drills (excluding special-purpose tools) * Maintain tight tolerances and ensure dimensional accuracy during machining * Use gauges and fixtures to inspect parts and verify conformance to specifications * Perform routine maintenance and make minor repairs on assigned equipment * Identify and resolve machining or dimensional issues independently * Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment * Share technical expertise and mentor less experienced machinists * Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on several types of machines * Follow all applicable health and safety procedures * Perform other related duties as assigned Required Qualifications: * Minimum 7 years of relevant machining experience * Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English * Ability to perform mathematical operations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals * Thorough knowledge of shop geometry and trigonometry * Ability to read and interpret blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural documentation * Ability to write routine reports and communicate effectively with coworkers and leadership * Comprehensive knowledge of metal machinability * Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills Preferred Qualifications: * Aerospace and/or advanced manufacturing experience * Strong knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement tools * Ability to analyze production data and support process improvement initiatives * Experience in fast-paced, high-change environments * Strong communication and coordination skills across departments * Familiarity with machine programming and basic troubleshooting * Prior experience inspecting machined parts using a range of precision instruments * Demonstrated initiative in learning and professional growth * High School Diploma or equivalent * 10+ years of relevant machining experience * Leadership experience or prior mentoring of junior machinists Physical Requirements: * Requires mobility in a manufacturing plant environment while using Personal Protective Equipment. * Must be able to frequently sit, stand and walk. * Must be able to lift and carry 30 pounds. * Must be able to have prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. * Visual acuity to inspect precision components * Tolerance for a manufacturing environment (noise, machinery, oil/coolant exposure) * Occasional bending, twisting, and reaching during machine operation or maintenance tasks Compensation & Benefits: Pursuit Aerospace also offers a variety of benefits, including health insurance, EAP, paid time off, and company-paid holidays.
