Pay Rate: $72.00/hour, depending on experience Contract Length: 1 year Location: Calgary, Albert Raise is currently hiring a Senior Functional Analyst on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our client is responsible for the safe and reliable operation of the Alberta Interconnected Electric System. Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable. Description Our Client is undertaking a transformative restructuring of Alberta’s electricity market through the Restructured Energy Market (REM) program—a multi-year, enterprise-wide initiative implementing new mission-critical applications. Central to this transformation is the Enspire suite of applications, which enables our client operate the Alberta electricity market efficiently and reliably, encompassing market settlement systems, commercial model management, offer control, outage submission, price validation, and market power mitigation. Reporting to the Team Lead, Energy Settlement System, we are seeking a Senior Functional Analyst with a strong background in the electric utility sector, deep expertise in complex system implementations, and hands-on experience acting as a Scrum Master. This is a pivotal role during the implementation phase of the Enspire applications that will transition into an ongoing product team role for the lifecycle of the solution, ensuring it continuously meets the evolving needs of the Alberta electricity market. Responsibilities Requirements & Stakeholder Management: Lead stakeholder workshops to gather, document, and validate business requirements; define ESS functionality scope and facilitate consensus across priorities and decisions. Functional Translation & Liaison: Translate business needs into clear, actionable functional requirements, acting as the primary bridge between business stakeholders, technical teams, and external vendors. Agile & Backlog Delivery: Manage epics, user stories, tasks, and backlogs, actively supporting Scrum and Project Management delivery frameworks (including standups, sprint planning, and retrospectives). Process Engineering: Establish end-to-end process diagrams, mapping as-is workflows and defining to-be models to support ESS solution design and delivery. Gap & Impact Analysis: Identify capability gaps, process enhancements, and operational efficiencies across product delivery. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with QA, technical teams, and Change Management; support vendor design validation for consistency and completeness. Testing & Issue Resolution: Support SIT/UAT testing, rigorous issue triage, and root-break/root-cause analysis during design and implementation. Documentation & Governance: Maintain comprehensive documentation across business requirements, functional specifications, traceability matrices, and change logs. Data & Metrics: Analyze and report on data to identify key metrics, KPIs, and actionable business insights across design and delivery. Industry Expertise: Provide guidance on industry best practices, regulatory requirements, and emerging technologies within the electrical utility sector. Operations & Cutover: Support operational readiness, training, communications, cutover planning, and ongoing post-implementation product enhancement. Qualifications 10+ years of progressive experience in business analysis or a closely related discipline. Demonstrated experience working on a product team utilizing user stories, backlog management, and sprint cycles. Strong technical acumen with solid understanding of system architecture, APIs, data structures, and data integrations. Proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques, including SQL, advanced Excel, and data visualization software. Practical working knowledge of JavaScript and Python. Hands-on experience with cloud, web-based enterprise applications. Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders. Proven adaptability and resilience in fast-paced environments with evolving priorities and tight timelines. Expertise in both Agile and Waterfall delivery methodologies, with a strong command of Scrum ceremonies. Experience with Azure DevOps for tracking, backlog, and sprint management. Nice-to-Haves: Direct experience in the electrical utility industry (strongly preferred). Proven track record of leading successful projects from inception to implementation, delivering measurable business value. Knowledge of change management principles and methodologies to drive user adoption and stakeholder buy-in. Experience managing multiple cross-functional projects implementing new, complex business lines. Background working on a Product Team as a functional analyst post-implementation, mentoring junior team members.
