Senior Hydrogeologist Pay Rate: $73.93/hour, depending on experience Contract Length: 40 weeks Location: Fort McMurray, Alberta Raise is currently hiring a Senior Hydrogeologist on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, the third largest producer of Canadian oil and natural gas and the second largest refiner and upgrader with extensive midstream and downstream infrastructure. Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable. Description We are seeking an experienced hydrogeologist to support complex hydrogeological, environmental, regulatory, and operational initiatives across its large-scale energy assets. The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, regulators, consultants, Indigenous communities, and internal stakeholders to manage groundwater-related risks and support environmental stewardship and regulatory compliance. The Hydrogeologist will provide technical expertise and strategic support across a broad range of groundwater and environmental programs. This role will involve assessing and managing groundwater risks, supporting groundwater monitoring programs, leading contamination investigations, interpreting hydrochemical and isotopic data, and providing technical input into operational and regulatory decisions. The successful candidate will also contribute to environmental permitting, regulatory submissions, water supply programs, domestic water well investigations, deep well disposal activities, and ongoing environmental management initiatives. Responsibilities Hydrogeological & Groundwater Management Assess and manage groundwater-related risks associated with resource well drilling operations. Support the design, implementation, monitoring, and interpretation of groundwater monitoring programs for large-scale in situ oil sands developments. Lead and review groundwater contamination assessments, investigations, and related technical programs. Evaluate surface casing vent flow fluids using hydrochemical and isotopic analyses. Provide hydrogeological expertise to support operational decision-making and environmental risk management. Interpret groundwater, hydrogeological, hydrochemical, and environmental datasets to identify trends, risks, and opportunities. Support hydrogeologic mapping, groundwater assessments, and groundwater resource evaluations. Apply sound hydrogeological principles to complex field and operational challenges. Water Supply & Investigations Support the development, licensing, operation, monitoring, and reporting of shallow groundwater supply systems. Conduct and support domestic water well investigations. Respond to groundwater and domestic water supply concerns raised by stakeholders. Provide technical support related to deep well disposal activities. Evaluate potential impacts to groundwater resources associated with operational activities. Environmental & Regulatory Support Provide technical support for environmental permitting and regulatory applications. Support environmental compliance programs and ongoing site environmental management activities. Prepare, review, and contribute to technical reports, regulatory submissions, environmental assessments, and supporting documentation. Ensure hydrogeological work is completed in accordance with applicable Alberta regulatory requirements and industry standards. Work collaboratively with regulators and external stakeholders to address hydrogeological and environmental requirements. Provide technical input into environmental risk assessments and mitigation strategies. Technical Leadership Serve as a trusted technical resource for groundwater and hydrogeological matters. Provide technical guidance to multidisciplinary project and operational teams. Review hydrogeological assessments, reports, data interpretations, and consultant deliverables. Provide recommendations based on sound technical analysis and professional judgment. Support the integration of hydrogeological information into broader environmental, engineering, and operational programs. Communicate complex technical information clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders. Data Analysis & Reporting Analyze and interpret groundwater monitoring, hydrochemical, isotopic, and environmental data. Identify trends, anomalies, potential risks, and data gaps. Support groundwater modeling and interpretation activities where applicable. Maintain a strong understanding of data quality, monitoring program design, and environmental assessment methodologies. Prepare clear, accurate, and technically defensible reports and presentations. Provide technical recommendations to support regulatory, environmental, and operational decision-making. Coordination & Communication Collaborate with internal multidisciplinary teams, including environmental, engineering, operations, regulatory, and technical professionals. Coordinate with consultants, regulators, Indigenous communities, landowners, and other external stakeholders as required. Build and maintain strong working relationships across technical and functional teams. Communicate project status, technical findings, risks, and recommendations effectively. Manage multiple priorities and deliverables in a dynamic operational environment. Qualifications Minimum 10 years of progressive hydrogeological experience. Strong understanding of groundwater systems, groundwater monitoring programs, and environmental assessment methodologies. Demonstrated experience working within resource development, energy, mining, or related industrial sectors. Working knowledge of Alberta environmental regulations and regulatory processes. Strong technical writing, data interpretation, analytical, and communication skills. Proven ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders. Ability to provide technical leadership and exercise sound professional judgment. Experience interpreting complex hydrogeological and environmental datasets and translating findings into practical recommendations. Preferred Skills Experience supporting oil sands or conventional energy operations. Experience with hydrogeologic mapping, groundwater modeling, and hydrogeochemistry. Experience with hydrochemical and isotopic analysis. Experience supporting regulatory applications, environmental impact assessments, and environmental compliance programs. Familiarity with groundwater data management, analysis, and interpretation tools. Experience with shallow groundwater supply systems and domestic water well investigations. Experience supporting deep well disposal programs. Experience working directly with regulators, consultants, Indigenous communities, and other external stakeholders. Education and Certifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Earth Sciences, Geological Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
