Position Summary The Construction Manager leads the day-to-day execution of field construction and installation operations for structural steel and miscellaneous metals projects. This role owns on-site crew leadership, installation quality, jobsite safety, and field logistics, ensuring work is carried out efficiently, safely, and to specification. The Construction Manager works closely with the Project Manager, who owns overall project planning, contract administration, procurement, and financial performance, and serves as the on-site point of contact for field conditions, progress, and day-to-day subcontractor coordination. Reporting Relationship: Reports to the General Manager. Key Responsibilities Field Operations & Crew Leadership Lead daily morning briefings with installation crews to confirm scope of work and daily priorities. Ensure Installers understand the production expectations each day. Conduct end-of-day debriefs with crews to review progress and resolve outstanding field issues. Prepare and issue weekly labour schedules for installation crews and third-party installers. Develop written installation procedures and method statements for field crews. Attend pre-construction scope reviews with the assigned Project Manager ahead of project mobilization. Report on field operations activity during weekly operations meetings. Provide daily report to General Manager summarizing key deliverables for installations crews and construction management team as well as forecasting for the next business day. Site Execution & Quality Control Conduct pre-installation inspections of structural steel and miscellaneous metal components. Perform field measurements for railings, handrails, guardrails, structural steel, and other miscellaneous metals. Carry out regular site visits to monitor installation quality, workmanship, and adherence to drawings and specifications. Coordinate on-site rental equipment (lifts, hoists, cranes) required for installation activities. Ensure equipment ordered is within budget, appropriate for the job at hand, and not in surplus. Identify extra-contract or out-of-scope work in the field and flag it to the Project Manager for pricing and approval. Health, Safety & Regulatory Compliance Prepare and maintain safety documentation, toolbox talks, and site audits. Represent the company in dealings with the Ministry of Labour, WSIB, and other Occupational Health & Safety authorities on field operations matters. Coordinate with the JHSC on all field safety matters. Champion a proactive, zero-incident safety culture across all field operations. Equipment, Tools & Site Logistics Coordinate with the Production Supervisor to order miscellaneous metals, hardware, and installation materials needed to keep field crews on schedule. Maintain accurate tool and stockroom inventory in collaboration with Production Supervisor. Oversee inspections, maintenance, and repairs for the company vehicle fleet. Review equipment budget assigned by PM at the start of the project. Field-Level Subcontractor Coordination Coordinate the daily on-site scheduling and activities of subcontractor crews and equipment providers. Monitor subcontractor workmanship and safety performance in the field, escalating concerns to the General Manager. Provide field-level performance feedback to support the General Manager's subcontractor evaluations. On-Site Client Communication Serve as the on-site point of contact for clients, consultants, and general contractors during installation. Communicate site progress, field conditions, and installation issues to the Project Manager and client representatives. Support the Project Manager in maintaining client satisfaction through professional, responsive on-site service. Administrative Tasks Manage the Master Project Log, forecasting work, and completing the three-week lookahead projection daily/weekly Formalize communication during site visits via email follow-up daily/weekly Perform other responsibilities as required. Experience & Qualifications 7–10 years of experience in the construction industry; experience with structural steel and/or miscellaneous metals is strongly preferred. Diploma or degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
