This position provides Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and piping services at a journeyman level to ensure a safe and healthy environment for students, staff, and other building users. Additional responsibilities include but not limited to installing upgrades, performing services, repairs, and tests heating and ventilation systems throughout the District to ensure efficient operation. This position is under the supervision of the Manager of Maintenance. Work is performed independently but may receive instructions and guidance from the HVAC Technician "A" License when performing Class A gas fitting work. Major Duties And Responsibilities Installs, upgrades, services, repairs and tests heating, ventilation and refrigeration components, equipment and systems such as hot water, warm air, natural gas, propane, compressed air, pneumatic and Direct Digital control to ensure safe and efficient operation. Responds to HVAC and piping emergencies throughout the District facilities, such as gas leaks, leaking or burst pipes and lack of heat. Troubleshoots technical problems with respect to HVAC piping systems. Prioritizes work orders and organizes daily work schedule. Balances HVAC systems. Reads and interprets plans, drawings, and specifications of District facilities for the layout of HVAC and piping system upgrades and repairs. Develops manual plans, sketches and drawings for the purpose of job layouts, permit applications, and estimating time and materials required to complete the work. Provides technical advice and information to District managers, administrators, tradespeople and outside contractors in the HVAC and piping trades' capacity. Provides direction to temporary employees and outside contractors. Operates a District vehicle and maintains the vehicle's HVAC equipment and materials inventory as necessary. Inspect vehicle for safe operation and reports defects to the supervisor as per District procedures. Performs maintenance such as keeping it clean and adding operating fluids as required. Completes written records related to work performed and ensures work area remains safe and free of debris while on the job site, at the end of each day and upon completion of work order. Maintains familiarity with standards, codes, and by-laws regulating the HVAC trade. Maintains current knowledge of technical, procedural, and regulatory developments. Performs duties in compliance with District and Government health and safety procedures and regulations that relate to the work performed to minimize potential for accidents, injuries or hazards. Performs other job related duties of comparable importance, difficulty, and responsibility as required. Qualifications Grade 12 or equivalent plus a BC or Interprovincial Certificate of Apprenticeship and a BC or Interprovincial Certificate of Qualification on one or more of the following Piping Trades as established by the needs of the department: Plumbing, Steam fitting/Pipefitting, or Refrigeration. Two (2) years’ experience at a Journeyman level in commercial and institutional heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) service work including maintenance, repair and installation of commercial and industrial equipment. Class "B" gas License with electrical endorsement. Thorough knowledge of computerized control software and equipment applicable to the HVAC trade. Competency in the use and care of tools and equipment common to the trade. Ability to organize workload, work under periodic pressure and complete assignments with minimal supervision. Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, pushing, pulling, and moving heavy materials, equipment and supplies and working in confined spaces. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License. Interested applicants must provide proof of qualifications in order to be considered. Exigences

Requires a Grade 12 diploma, a BC or Interprovincial Certificate of Qualification in a piping trade, and a Class B gas license with electrical endorsement. Candidates must have at least two years of journeyman-level experience in commercial or institutional HVAC service.
