Job Summary & Requirements The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is a professional caregiver who is responsible and accountable for providing quality patient care within a delivery model in accordance with the philosophy, policies and standards of care of the Royal Victoria Hospital, the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and all relevant legislation. The RPN is a professional Registered Practical Nurse with oncology specific clinical knowledge who offers individualized assistance to patients, families, and caregivers to help facilitate continuity of care and promote patient and family empowerment. The RPN identifies patient’s health and supportive care needs to help patients anticipate and overcome barriers. The RPN establishes a therapeutic relationship to build trust and confidence with patients while providing education and resources to facilitate informed decision making and timely access to quality health and psychosocial care throughout all phases of the cancer care continuum. This position will be supporting patients within the Thoracic Diagnostic Assessment Program, and will also be required to train and work with interdisciplinary teams in any of the Oncology Outpatient clinics or programs. Education: Current Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario required Current BCLS required De Souza Cancer Care Basics an asset; requirement to obtain within 2 years of hire De Souza Patient Navigation Course an asset; requirement to obtain within 2 years of hire Continuing education courses specific to Oncology an asset Experience: Current progressive nursing experience in outpatient oncology clinics, required. Adult teaching experience required Acute care experience an asset Experience in surgical programs an asset Ability and experience demonstrated through positive attendance, performance appraisals and work history RPN Health Assessment or equivalent preferred Competencies: Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development Demonstrated commitment to the professional growth and development of others Demonstrated commitment to the concepts of continuous quality improvement and patient centered processes Ability to learn about, from, and with other members of the patient care team to foster a strong, interprofessional model of care Demonstrated experience and commitment to facilitating continuity of care, and promoting patient and family empowerment as core competencies of a professional patient navigator Excellent organizational and communication skills (oral and written), conflict resolution and decision making skills Flexibility to accommodate changing assignments and workloads

Exigences
