Application Support Specialist - Junior Client: Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement (MPBSDP) Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Onsite) We are seeking an Application Support Specialist - Junior to provide operational and technical support for enterprise middleware services and application hosting environments. This role is ideal for professionals with experience supporting Java-based enterprise applications, middleware technologies, cloud platforms, and ITIL service management processes. The successful candidate will support a large-scale environment hosting over 200 enterprise Java applications while participating in incident management, service request fulfillment, change implementation, operational reporting, and continuous service improvement. Key Responsibilities (by Workload) General Project Coordination & Communication (30%) Support project coordination activities while collaborating with technical teams and business stakeholders. Responsibilities Include: Coordinate operational activities and technical initiatives across multiple teams. Communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Assist with project planning, implementation, and operational improvements. Analyze operational data and prepare reports for management. Utilize Microsoft Office tools for reporting, documentation, and process automation. Support continuous improvement initiatives through analytical problem-solving. Service Management & Operational Support (30%) Provide operational support following ITIL best practices to ensure reliable service delivery. Responsibilities Include: Manage Incident, Problem, Change, and Configuration Management processes. Perform incident intake, triage, investigation, and resolution. Process service requests and coordinate change implementation activities. Monitor service performance and identify opportunities for improvement. Utilize Remedy/set and other service management platforms. Prepare operational reports and analyze service trends. Middleware & Infrastructure Support (35%) Provide technical support for enterprise middleware environments supporting mission-critical Java applications. Responsibilities Include: Support IBM WebSphere Application Server (NDM and Liberty) environments. Administer middleware technologies including IBM DataPower. Support deployment automation using Urban Code Deploy and Urban Code Velocity. Monitor application environments using ITCAM, Dynatrace, and related monitoring solutions. Support Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Oracle Solaris environments. Work with OpenShift, Kubernetes, and Ansible to manage containerized applications. Support DevOps and CI/CD processes utilizing Jenkins and deployment automation tools. Manage secure file transfer solutions and enterprise storage technologies including Ceph. Assist with cloud infrastructure, networking technologies, DNS, firewalls, load balancers, and enterprise integration platforms including IBM MQ, IBM ACE, and Informatica. Public Sector Collaboration (5%) Support initiatives within Ontario Public Service (OPS), Broader Public Sector (BPS), or similar government environments. Follow established government standards, policies, and operational procedures. Contribute to service delivery and operational excellence across public sector programs.
