Company Description Legal Aid Saskatchewan is a provincially mandated organization that has supported access to justice since 1974. Staff lawyers and administrative teams provide full legal services to financially eligible adult and youth clients in criminal and family law matters. Duty counsel is available to in‑custody clients at all 74 Provincial Courthouses and circuit points, and legal advice via the Brydges Line is offered to individuals who are arrested or detained, regardless of financial status. Summary advice and information may be provided to anyone on a wide range of legal issues through brief interviews or phone calls. Legal Aid Saskatchewan operates 14 offices across the province, including a location in La Ronge, SK. Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Lawyer position based in La Ronge, SK. The Lawyer will provide legal representation and advice to adult and youth clients on criminal and family law matters, including file preparation, legal research, drafting documents, and courtroom advocacy. Day-to-day responsibilities include meeting with clients to assess legal needs, explaining rights and options, negotiating with Crown and opposing counsel, and appearing in Provincial Court and other forums as required. The Lawyer will also provide duty counsel services to in-custody clients, offer summary advice to individuals seeking brief legal assistance, and maintain thorough and timely file management and documentation. Collaboration with colleagues, engagement with community partners, and adherence to Legal Aid Saskatchewan policies and professional standards are central to the role. Qualifications License to practice law in Saskatchewan, or eligibility for admission to the Law Society of Saskatchewan, with good standing. Experience or strong interest in criminal law and family law, including client representation, negotiations, and court appearances. Proficiency in legal research, analytical reasoning, and preparation of clear, well-structured legal documents and submissions. Strong client service orientation, including the ability to communicate complex legal concepts in an accessible way and work with diverse communities. Effective time management, organizational skills, and the ability to manage a high-volume caseload with attention to detail and deadlines. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment and maintain professional ethics and confidentiality. Willingness to live and work in La Ronge, SK, and to travel to circuit points and other court locations as required. Experience with Indigenous and northern communities, cultural competency, and knowledge of systemic barriers to justice are considered strong assets. Comfort with basic office technologies and case management systems; familiarity with Legal Aid or public interest practice is an advantage.
