Join the Council of the Haida Nation! The Council of the Haida Nation (CHN) is responsible for the stewardship of lands, waters and people. Working with CHN means being part of a team that values collaboration, cultural knowledge, and meaningful contributions to the well-being of the Haida. Description Reports to the HNRD Manager. Working with the CFI Auditor and other HNRD staff, the Technician assists in conducting CFI Audits, CFI Surveys in an out of the Protected Areas, effectiveness monitoring and implementation of the HG Land Use Objectives Order. They participate with FLNRO staff in the provincial Forest and Range evaluation Program, and assist in forest ecology research and data management. This position is mentored under a CFI Auditor, to do data entry, mapping, and develop writing skills for reports and administrative documents. Key Duties & Responsibilities Assist the CFI Auditor in conducting CFI audits, and managing information for the CFI program; Assist the Practices Forester with monitoring effectiveness and implementation of the Land Use Objectives Order; Work with the Integrated Stewardship Team and local FLNRO staff to support the Forest and Range Evaluation program. Assist in forest ecology research to support long term sustainable forest management; Perform other related duties as assigned Qualifications & Skills Organized, adaptable, flexible and willing to learn and adapt new skills; with good written and verbal communication skills and work ethic CFI Certification to current version Proficient in Microsoft Office, applicable mapping software programs, etc Proficient in GPS, field data collection Experience in the forest, and physical ability to work in the field First Aid and transportation (Level 1) Must have a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s license Some post-secondary would be an asset or an equivalent combination of education, training and ability. Preference will be given to Haida candidates as per Section 41 of the Human Rights Code. $29.23 per hour based on experience, Full-time 35 hrs. per week Benefit Package: Dental Care, Extended health care, Vision care, Disability Insurance, Life Insurance, Employee Assistance Program, Pension Plan, Paid time off
