Data Engineer – Intermediate (GOAPRDJP00000975) Client: Government of Alberta (GOA) – Technology and Innovation Project: Digital Regulatory Assurance System (DRAS) Location: Edmonton, Alberta (Primarily Remote; must attend onsite meetings in Edmonton 3–4 times/month as required) Duration: Approximately 12 months + possible 6-month extension Hours: 36.25 hours/week (7.25 hours/day) Interview Window: 27–31 July 2026 Job Description The Government of Alberta is seeking an Intermediate Data Engineer to support the Digital Regulatory Assurance System (DRAS) modernization initiative. The successful candidate will design, develop, and maintain enterprise-scale Azure data platforms, build analytics-ready datasets, and create secure, scalable data pipelines supporting regulatory reporting, compliance monitoring, and business intelligence. Requirements Key Responsibilities Design scalable Azure data architecture for cloud and hybrid environments. Build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using: Azure Databricks Delta Lake Azure Data Factory Azure Synapse Analytics Develop data workflows using Python (PySpark) and SQL. Manage Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2. Integrate data from ServiceNow, APIs, and geospatial systems. Develop semantic models, data marts, and analytics-ready datasets. Implement data governance, metadata management, lineage, and security. Design secure REST APIs using Azure API Management. Optimize enterprise data pipelines and monitor performance. Utilize AI-assisted development tools for code generation, automation, testing, and documentation. Support regulatory analytics and future AI initiatives. Mandatory Requirements Post-secondary degree/diploma in Computer Science or related field. 1+ year using AI-driven code generation, automation, or data analysis. 3+ years Azure Databricks, Delta Lake, Workflows, Jobs, Notebooks, Cluster Management. 3+ years designing analytics-ready data platforms (Power BI, Synapse, semantic models, data marts). 2+ years Databricks data governance, metadata management, and security. 4+ years GitHub/Git. 3+ years Azure services (Storage, SQL, Synapse, Networking, Managed Identity, Service Principals). 5+ years Python (PySpark) and SQL for enterprise ETL/ELT. Nice-to-Have Skills Business/data requirement analysis (6+ years) Microsoft SQL Server (6+ years) Microsoft Fabric (2+ years) Government of Alberta Cloud experience (1+ year) Talend ETL (2+ years) REST API development (3+ years) Cross-functional software development (5+ years) ServiceNow integrations (1+ year) Azure Service Bus / ActiveMQ messaging (3+ years)
