Position Summary The Drafting Technologist is responsible for producing accurate technical drawings and documentation for facade projects from design development through fabrication and installation. Working closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Estimators, Production Teams, and Site Operations, this role transforms architectural concepts into coordinated shop drawings, fabrication packages, and installation drawings while ensuring compliance with project specifications, applicable building codes, and Siber's quality standards. This position plays a critical role in ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, accurately, and on schedule. Responsibilities Shop Drawings & Technical Documentation • Prepare detailed shop drawings for window wall, curtain wall, storefront, punched windows, and cladding systems issuing computer aided design (CAD) software, Revit or other BIM modeling. • Produce & review fabrication drawings for aluminum extrusions, metal panels, flashings, and associated components if needed. • Prepare installation drawings, Grid layouts and sequencing details. • Create details, sections, elevations, and large-scale construction details. • Develop drawing packages suitable for consultant review, fabrication, and field installation. Project Coordination • Review IFCs & IDs such as, architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical and consultant commented drawings. • Coordinate design information with Drafting Manager, Project Managers and Engineers. • Attend internal project coordination meetings. • Identify design conflicts and propose practical solutions with DM & R&D team. • Coordinate revisions resulting from RFIs, SI's, ASI's, CCD's, and change orders. • Review drawing packages for completeness and accuracy before release to pursue accountability. System Development • Detail curtain wall and window wall assemblies. • Develop glazing & panels details. • Detail anchors, embeds, brackets, clips, and support systems. • Prepare waterproofing interfaces and flashing details. • Incorporate thermal break requirements and air/water barrier interfaces. • Understand sealant joints, structural movement & expansion joints, tolerances, and installation requirements. Document Management • Maintain organized project drawing files. • Track revisions by filling modification list sheet to maintain revision control throughout the project lifecycle. • Archive superseded drawings. • Ensure drawing registers remain current. Communication • Communicate technical information to: o Project Managers o Drafting Manager o Consultants if needed o Architects if needed o Engineers if needed • Assist with responding to consultant comments during drawing review. Continuous Improvement • Participate in developing drafting standards. • Assist with improving drawing templates. • Standardize details and assemblies. • Support development of new facade systems. • Contribute to lessons learned by making lean & kaizen strategy with DM. Qualifications Required • Diploma or Degree in Architectural Technology, Drafting Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or related discipline. • Minimum 3 years of drafting experience (building envelope, glazing, or construction preferred). • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit & BIM modeling. • Strong understanding of construction drawings. • Ability to read IFCs & IDs drawing. • Excellent attention to detail. • Strong organizational and communication skills. • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Requires a diploma or degree in Architectural, Drafting, or Civil Engineering Technology with at least 3 years of relevant drafting experience. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM modeling is essential.
