Context We are seeking an experienced telecommunications and systems integration professional to support the design and implementation of end-to-end communication solutions within a railway transportation environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in solution architecture, interface management and technical coordination across multiple stakeholders. Responsibilities Analyze, manage and maintain technical and functional requirements. Design telecommunications solution architectures covering onboard, station, wayside and control centre environments. Ensure technical compliance and coordinate activities with customers, operators, engineering teams, suppliers, subcontractors and project stakeholders. Lead interface management activities between telecommunications subsystems and external systems. Identify, define and document functional, physical, electrical, network and software interfaces. Develop and maintain technical documentation, including Interface Control Documents (ICDs). Define communication protocols, data flows, IP addressing schemes, synchronization mechanisms and cybersecurity requirements. Ensure design consistency, technical alignment and integration readiness across all system domains. Support interface issue resolution and technical decision-making activities. Plan and execute design, configuration, testing and commissioning activities. Prepare conceptual, preliminary, detailed and installation design deliverables for telecommunications subsystems. Participate in product and equipment selection activities. Develop Bills of Materials (BOMs) and support procurement activities. Architect and integrate medium- to large-scale telecommunications systems with a focus on wired networks, wireless networks and radio technologies. Contribute to multidisciplinary projects of varying complexity and scale. Required Skills Strong experience in telecommunications engineering. Extensive knowledge of telecommunications principles, methods and industry practices. Proven expertise in wired and wireless network architecture and design. Strong understanding of switching and routing technologies. Solid knowledge of networking protocols, design patterns and architectural constraints. Experience with wireless communication systems in demanding operational environments. Knowledge of IP-based critical communications infrastructures. Exposure to passenger information and passenger communication technologies. Knowledge of fiber optics, servers, software, hardware and associated communication technologies. Experience with testing, validation, integration and commissioning activities. Familiarity with RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety) deliverables. Ability to interpret electrical, electronic and mechanical drawings and schematics. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline. 8 to 10 years of experience in telecommunications engineering. Experience with railway or transportation systems design and integration. Experience in railway systems engineering. CCNP certification or equivalent networking certification. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation considered a strong asset. Criminal background verification required.
