For more information, visit www.snpolytechnic.com JOB PURPOSE Reporting to the Associate Dean, Skilled Trades, the Shop Assistant supports the effective delivery of Skilled Trades programming. The position contributes to a safe, efficient, and high-quality learning environment by supporting shop operations, maintaining equipment and facilities, and responding to the day-to-day needs of programs. The Shop Assistant provides operational and administrative support by preparing materials and equipment for hands-on learning activities, maintaining accurate inventory records and an organized, functional shop environment, and promoting safe work practices in accordance with WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards. The Shop Assistant is required to perform all duties consistent with the governance values and operating policies of Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) while fostering positive relations with staff, students, stakeholders, and the community; contributing to a culturally supportive teaching, learning and work environment consistent with Hodinǫshǫ:nih/Rotinonhson:ni values of Ga’nigohi:yo:/Kanikoriio (Respect and the Good Mind). KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Inventory & Tool Crib Management 30% Assisting inventory control systems for tools, equipment, materials, and PPE Assist with receiving, tracking orders and deliveries Maintaining tool sign-in/sign-out systems for students and instructors Ensuring accurate records of inventory and shop supplies Other related duties, as required Instructional Support 30% Ensuring proper storage and upkeep of equipment and materials Supporting day-to-day operations of the shop environment Preparing materials and equipment for instructional use Assisting students with the safe use of tools and equipment Other related duties, as required Shop Operations & Safety 30% Maintaining shop cleanliness, organization, and housekeeping standards Identifying hazards and addressing safety risks Performing routine inspections and reporting equipment issues Responding to JHS inspection findings Other related duties, as required Program Planning, Collaboration & Organizational Participation 10% Supporting funding applications and gathering required documentation Assist in the development and maintenance of an annual work plan Promoting a respectful, collaborative, and culturally supportive learning environment consistent with SNP values Other related duties, as required EDUCATIONAL KNOWLEDGE Completion of high school. Completion of introductory studies in industrial skilled trades such as welding or machining is required. EXPERIENTIAL KNOWLEDGE / CULTURE AND LANGUAGE EXPERTISE Up to and including 1 year of experience in a skilled trades environment (such as welding, machining, or a related field) is required to independently carry out the full responsibilities of the role. This experience must include hands-on work with tools, equipment, and shop safety practices. Prior experience working for an Indigenous organization is preferred. Criminal Record Check The successful candidate will be required to provide an original Criminal Background Check – Vulnerable Sector Screening that is satisfactory to Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) prior to the first day of work at Six Nations Polytechnic, and an Offence Declaration that is satisfactory to SNP by their first day of employment at Six Nations Polytechnic. POSITION TYPE: New Position POSITION CLOSING DATE: August 18th, 2026 JOB TYPE: Contract, 8 weeks SCHEDULE: 37.5 hrs Monday-Friday; 8:30am-4:00pm WORK MODEL: Onsite PAY BAND: 2; Core range $20.79-$24.36. The target hiring salary for this position is minimum (Step 1) up to 45% of the pay band. Considerations for new hire step placements include experiential knowledge and/or language and cultural expertise.

The Shop Assistant supports the effective delivery of Skilled Trades programming by maintaining shop operations, equipment, and facilities. They are responsible for inventory management, preparing instructional materials, and ensuring a safe learning environment in compliance with safety standards.

Candidates must have completed high school and introductory studies in industrial skilled trades such as welding or machining. At least one year of experience in a skilled trades environment is required to perform the role's responsibilities.
