This Opportunity Smith + Andersen is looking for a Marketing Communications Specialist to join the Marketing & Communications team based in our Toronto office. This role, reporting to the Director of Marketing & Communications, tells the stories of the firm’s people and work, and creates marketing communications for one of Canada’s most trusted engineering consulting firms. With offices across Canada and with responsibilities spanning the marketing process, the role touches a variety of marketing communications deliverables. This posting is for an existing vacancy within our organization. Who You Are You are a marketing communications generalist, but writing is among your strongest skills. You can produce article-length content and concise social media posts, and are capable with the tools needed for getting your message out: Mailchimp, Buffer, Wordpress, Sharepoint etc. (or similar). Work with our graphic designers and external web developer as needed, and provide recommendations for improvements across the sites. * Maintain and manage a calendar of school sponsorship opportunities and career fairs, and coordinate participation and deliverables. * Drive the creation of content for the quarterly newsletter, gathering content from contacts across the company, and writing content. * Monitor website, email, intranet, and social media analytics to inform improvements to communications. * Maintain an awareness of competitor activities and marketing communications best practices within and outside our industry. * Ensure all Marketing Communications are aligned with the Writing Style Guide and receive all appropriate reviews and approvals. * Work closely with the Marketing Communications Project Manager and graphic design team to ensure projects are delivered to meet or exceed internal clients’ expectations. * Collaborate with Marketing & Communications team members to identify opportunities for improvement and recommend effective communications strategies and solutions. * Contribute to departmental and organization-wide objectives and goals. * Foster strong relationships across the organization to support collaboration, information sharing, and communications initiatives. * Ensure brand attributes and positioning are evident in all communications as appropriate. * Assist other members of the marketing team when necessary. Who You Are * Strong writing ability is a must. * Four to six years of experience, with proven success in marketing communications * University or college degree or diploma in communications, marketing, or related field. * Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences. * Strong interpersonal skills and experience working with senior leadership teams and other key stakeholders. * Excellent organizational skills, including project management, prioritization, and time management. Experience and comfort with project management software (eg. Zoho, Asana, Jira, etc.) * A strong sense of initiative, paired with the ability to lead projects autonomously with minimal supervision. * Strong work ethic with a drive to perform in a collaborative environment. * Detail-oriented, proactive and continuously looking for ways to improve work and processes. * Familiarity with layout and image editing tools (InDesign and Photoshop, primarily) is an asset. * Experience with marketing email and publishing platforms (eg. Workshop, Mailchimp, Buffer, etc.) is an asset. * Familiarity with web publishing CMS platforms (eg. Sharepoint, Wordpress, etc.) is an asset. * Experience with video editing tools (eg. Premiere, Final Cut, etc.) is an asset. * Exposure to organizational recruitment and retention efforts is an asset.
