Role Description This full-time, on-site Family Law Lawyer role is based in Vancouver, BC. The lawyer will manage a caseload involving parenting arrangements, support issues, property division, separation agreements, divorce proceedings, and assisted reproduction and surrogacy matters. Day-to-day responsibilities include meeting with clients, assessing legal issues, providing advice, drafting pleadings and agreements, preparing financial and disclosure documents, and representing clients in negotiations, mediation, collaborative processes, and court. The role involves regular communication with opposing counsel and other professionals, strategic case management, and ongoing file review to ensure timely progress and high-quality service. The lawyer will also contribute to firm initiatives, maintain accurate time and billing records, and stay current with developments in family law in British Columbia and Alberta. Qualifications Licensed lawyer in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia; eligibility or membership with the Law Society of Alberta is an asset. Experience in family law, including child custody and support, separation and divorce, and property and support claims. Demonstrated skills in negotiation, mediation, and, where required, litigation and courtroom advocacy. Strong legal research, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop effective case strategies. Excellent drafting skills for agreements, pleadings, affidavits, and other family law documents. Clear, respectful written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to clients. Organizational and time-management abilities to handle multiple files, deadlines, and court dates efficiently. Commitment to professional ethics, confidentiality, and trauma-informed, client-centered practice. Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and build positive relationships with colleagues and external professionals. Prior experience with collaborative family law, mediation training, or fertility and surrogacy law is an asset.
