At STELIA North America, we are offering the opportunity for a career that is out of this world! We are looking for someone to join our Quality Assurance Team in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. An affiliate of the Airbus Group of Companies, STELIA is an aerospace and defence company specializing in the design, development, and manufacturing of composite components and assemblies. Headquartered in Lunenburg, NS, and with a site in Mirabel, QC, we operate more than 150,000 sq feet of facilities dedicated to operations, manufacturing and administration. The Materials Testing Lead Technician provides technical expertise and plays a major role in ensuring material testing is performed per customer specification and/or approved industry standards. This role embraces a culture defined by safety, quality, teamwork, and accountability. Accountabilities: * Perform and lead laboratory testing tasks such as material testing for in-process, receiving, shelf-life extension, development, and qualifications. * Review the testing schedules and provide feedback to managers and schedulers. * Develop, review, and retain lab related documents, such as test plans, work instructions, procedures, etc. * Review testing files and reports to ensure accuracy and conciseness and maintain records. * Manufacture test coupons per customer specification, industry standards or instructions. * Monitor performance of the lab, e.g., On-time Delivery, Safety, Quality, Efficiency * Ensure all tools and equipment are properly maintained, calibrated and are in safe, usable condition, that limits downtime and extends productivity. Coordinate with Maintenance or Calibration team as required. * Identify safety hazards associated with testing to be performed and apply appropriate safe measures to control and/or eliminate safety hazards. * Perform quality checks and identify nonconforming conditions in material and conditions. * Troubleshoot problems and participate in the review of non-conformances, test failures and root cause analysis. * Maintain a clean and organized workspace (parts can be sensitive to foreign materials). * Perform other functions and duties as assigned by supervisor. People Responsibilities: * Assign work to lab personnel. * Ensure that the work instructions and test procedures are followed. * Ensure the lab personnel are competent and conduct training (as needed) * Conduct performance evaluations of the lab personal and provide feedback (as required) * Follow and promote safety rules, such as wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), safety glasses, safety shoes or hearing protection where required. Qualifications: * College Technologist diploma or University Degree, or equivalent experience * 3 years experience in a quality environment, preferably in aerospace. * Quality certification (e.g., ASQ CQT) is an asset. * High attention to detail. * Self-motivated, quick learner * Knowledge of material laboratory practices, procedures, and industry standards (e.g., ASTM, ISO, EN, MIL-STD, etc.) * Strong understanding of data, analytics, computers and M365. * Ability to use lab equipment and wear personal protective equipment (PPE). * Ability to train people and explain work instructions and/or specifications. * Ability to troubleshoot problems, multitask and manage time. * Safety-Minded: Put safety first and realize how important it is to take care around certain machinery/equipment.
