StudioX News is a Canadian-first multilingual news network publishing in 44 languages for Canada’s official-language and multicultural communities, from English and French to Chinese, Korean, Tagalog, Farsi, Punjabi, Spanish, Arabic and more. Independently verified on Muck Rack, StudioX News reports and re-reports Canadian stories in the languages communities actually use every day, spanning newcomer, immigrant and Indigenous audiences. Our live editions include English, Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu, with more language desks rolling out across the country. We are a mission-driven newsroom focused on accessible, in-language journalism, and we are expanding our local and provincial coverage nationally. The Role The Multilingual Election Reporter covers local, provincial and national election news for audiences in Surrey and surrounding Lower Mainland communities. This is a contract, field-based role across the Lower Mainland, with our newsroom based in Surrey. You will report from campaign events, community gatherings, polling stations and press conferences, and produce clear, accurate stories in multiple languages for digital and social media. What You Will Do • Research election issues and identify stories that matter to local communities, not just campaign releases • Interview candidates, officials and community members • Verify facts and sources to a high editorial standard • Write and produce stories in English and at least one additional language, adapted for digital, video and social formats • Pitch story ideas and work with editors and producers • Monitor breaking news and meet tight deadlines through the election period What You Bring • Ability to report and write fluently in English and at least one additional language commonly spoken in British Columbia, for example French, Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, Tagalog, Farsi, Punjabi, Spanish, Vietnamese or Arabic • Experience in journalism or news reporting, including researching, interviewing and fact-checking in political or community contexts • Strong writing and storytelling skills for digital, video and social media, with the ability to make complex election topics accessible • Comfort working in the field, including live events, diverse community settings and flexible hours such as evenings and weekends during the election period • Knowledge of Canadian political institutions, electoral processes and current affairs, particularly in British Columbia and the Lower Mainland • High standards of journalistic ethics, accuracy and impartiality, with sound news judgment • Collaborative approach and strong communication skills for a multicultural newsroom • Proficiency with digital tools for newsgathering and publishing, such as content management systems, social platforms, and basic video or audio recording and editing Prior experience covering elections, government or community issues, and familiarity with diverse communities across the Lower Mainland, is an asset.
