SYSTRA Canada is an engineering and consulting firm whose primary focus is to offer transportation solutions, whether for passengers or goods: feasibility studies of building a new railway line, increasing the capacity of the existing infrastructure, privatization of a railway. Context The ALTO project is a major infrastructure initiative in Canadian history, aimed at developing over 1,000 km of new passenger rail service between major urban centers, including Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City. Missions/Main Duties Oversee and conduct the characterization of physical environments (geology, geomorphology, physiography, surficial deposits) and perform geohazard risk assessments with recommended mitigation measures along rail corridors. Lead or participate in fluvial-geomorphological and erosion studies, including bank stability and risk management. Provide technical support and collaborate with the Environment and Engineering teams, multidisciplinary groups, and external partners. Prepare and review technical and environmental reports, adapting specialized knowledge of Ontario and Quebec geology and geomorphology to projects across Canada. Profile/Skills Education : Master’s degree (M.Sc.) or Ph.D. in geomorphology, geology, geosciences, or a related field. Membership in a relevant professional order (e.g., OGQ, PGO) or the ability to obtain it quickly. Years of experience : Minimum of 10 to 15 years of relevant experience, ideally in the rail, infrastructure, or environmental sectors. Technical Competencies Demonstrated experience in the characterization of physical environments, geological risk analysis, and conducting fluvial-geomorphological studies. In-depth knowledge of the geology and geomorphology of Ontario and Quebec. Proficiency with tools and methods for characterizing surficial deposits, analyzing watercourse mobility, and assessing geological risks. Experience with major rail projects, team management, and knowledge of Canadian environmental regulations (an asset).
