Senior Structural Engineer (E4) Location: Burnaby, BC – Initially On-site / Potential Hybrid Contract: 12 Months, with strong potential for extension Compensation: $85–$95/hr INC | $69–$77/hr TERM Client: BC Hydro TEEMA is currently seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer (E4) to support BC Hydro on a long-term contract opportunity based out of the Edmonds office in Burnaby. This position will provide structural engineering support across BC Hydro projects and operations, with a focus on structural assessment, design, rehabilitation, field engineering, and construction support. The successful candidate will develop and review engineering solutions, resolve complex design and field issues, and provide technical guidance throughout project delivery. Responsibilities Develop and review structural designs and engineering solutions for BC Hydro projects and operations. Perform structural assessments, analysis, rehabilitation design, and construction support. Design and assess reinforced concrete, structural steel, and timber structures. Investigate and resolve complex structural design and field engineering issues. Assess existing field conditions and develop practical engineering solutions. Support construction staging, temporary works, excavation support, and constructability reviews. Work closely with contractors, project teams, and multidisciplinary engineering groups. Support project delivery against safety, cost, quality, and schedule requirements. Conduct engineering studies and analysis and contribute to technical standards and engineering practices. Serve as Professional of Record (PoR) where required. Qualifications Minimum 8 years of structural engineering experience in Canada. Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering. Registered P.Eng. (Civil/Structural) in good standing with Engineers & Geoscientists BC. Demonstrated experience with structural assessment, design, rehabilitation, and construction support. Strong design experience with reinforced concrete, structural steel, and timber structures. Ability to serve as Professional of Record and seal engineering work. Experience with construction staging, temporary works, excavation support systems, and constructability reviews. Experience with structural analysis software such as S-Frame, SAP2000, STAAD, or similar. Strong knowledge of BC construction practices, applicable codes, permitting requirements, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction. Strong technical report writing and communication skills. Preferred Experience Previous experience working with a Canadian utility owner. Structural assessment and rehabilitation of reinforced concrete utility infrastructure, including vaults, maintenance holes, duct banks, and other underground structures. Concrete repair and rehabilitation. Seismic assessment and retrofit of existing structures. Structural condition assessments and rehabilitation planning for aging infrastructure. Non-destructive testing (NDT) of reinforced concrete structures. Distribution infrastructure design, including underground and overhead facilities. Bridge design experience. Familiarity with MMCD, MoTT Utilities Manual, and City of Vancouver utility design requirements. Work Arrangement The position is based out of BC Hydro’s Edmonds office in Burnaby, BC. Candidates must reside in the Lower Mainland. The successful candidate should be prepared to work five days per week from the Edmonds office during the initial training and familiarization period, potentially for the first 6–7 months. A hybrid arrangement may become available afterward depending on business needs and management approval. The position also includes field work and travel throughout BC. Candidates must hold a valid Class 5 BC driver's licence, have access to a personal vehicle, and be comfortable travelling by road, plane, or boat when required. Field activities may involve working outdoors in varying weather conditions, walking steep grades or longer distances, and using ladders, fall-arrest equipment, and other required PPE. Candidates must successfully complete the required background check and drug & alcohol testing prior to starting.
