Résumé du poste

Location: Remote Job Type: Contract About Telence Solutions Telence Solutions is a multi-vendor network consulting and systems integration firm with three decades of hands-on optical transport, IP/MPLS, and utility communications expertise. Our engineers plan, design, and migrate live production networks for carriers and critical infrastructure operators across North America — not just in the lab. The Role We're looking for a Nokia Optical Design Engineer to join our optical transport practice, supporting access, metro, regional, and core network designs for our carrier and utility clients across Canada. You'll work directly on Nokia 1830 PSS solution architecture, capacity planning, and vendor evaluation engagements — real production networks, not vendor lab configurations. What You'll Do • Design and engineer solutions across Nokia's 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) family — from compact access/metro-edge nodes (PSS-4II) through multiservice metro/regional platforms (PSS-8/PSS-16II), maximum-scale multilayer transport (PSS-32), P-OTN switching (PSS-8x/12x/24x), and next-generation core switching (PSS-64/PSS-36) • Develop network designs leveraging Nokia's Photonic Service Engine (PSE) coherent optics, with awareness of emerging PSE-V “super coherent” capabilities • Evaluate and plan for 1830 PSS-HC high-capacity shelf deployments as they move toward general availability, including interoperability considerations with existing 1830 line systems • Support client-facing vendor bake-offs and platform evaluations, translating operational requirements (access vs. metro vs. core scale, OTN switching needs, multiservice support) into platform recommendations • Design centralized management architectures using WaveSuite NOC • Contribute to cutover planning, migration sequencing, and post-deployment stabilization on live client networks • Produce clear technical documentation and design packages for internal teams and client stakeholders What You Bring • Hands-on design or engineering experience with Nokia 1830 PSS platforms or equivalent multi-vendor DWDM/OTN/P-OTN platforms • Solid understanding of coherent optics fundamentals, optical power budgets, and dispersion/fiber capacity planning • Familiarity with G.709 OTN switching concepts and multiservice transport design (Carrier Ethernet, mobile backhaul, DCI) • Experience with carrier-grade or utility-grade network requirements, where reliability and minimal service disruption are non-negotiable • Comfort working directly with clients on requirements definition and platform recommendations, not just internal design work • Eligible to work in Canada Nice to Have • Experience with Nokia WaveSuite NOC (or legacy NFM-T) or equivalent multi-vendor management platforms • Exposure to multilayer packet-optical switching design (PSS-32 class or equivalent) • Background evaluating or piloting next-generation high-capacity optical shelves • Utility, telecom, or critical infrastructure client experience Why Telence Solutions • Work on live, mission-critical networks — not whiteboard exercises • Vendor-neutral culture: we design for the client's operational outcome, not a sales motion • Collaborate with a senior bench of optical architects and multi-vendor engineers
